Do the following to clean the print head:

1. Press INK key on the control panel.

2. Press the DOWN arrow key until CLEANING appears on the LCD.

3. Press OK.

4. Press the DOWN arrow key to select BLACK, COLOR or ALL depending on what you want to clean.

5. Press OK.

The machine will clean the print head. When cleaning is finished, the machine will go back to Ready automatically. If you are experiencing a print quality issue, we recommend you repeat the print head cleaning for each color showing an issue at least five (4) times.

If you are experiencing a print quality issue and want to see if the cleanings are improving the print quality, print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS) after the first cleaning and then print another PQCS after repeating the print head cleaning steps at least three (3) more times (4 total cleanings). You can then compare the two Print Quality Check Sheets.

Do the following to print a Print Quality Check Sheet:

1. Press INK key on the control panel. TEST PRINT will appear on the LCD.

2. Press OK. PRINT QUALITY will appear on the LCD.

3. Press OK.

NOTE: The machine will generate the Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS). On the PQCS each of the four colors is represented by a slanted square pattern made up of 96 individual blocks. The colors should appear (from left to right): Black - Yellow - Cyan - Magenta. Cyan is the light blue color and Magenta is the pinkish color.

Hi Jacinth, The most common cause of this issue is simply having a small object like a paperclip, staple or torn piece of paper fall into the inside of the case. Opening the entire scanner lid will allow you to take a look inside. Remove any foreign objects that you find. If the error persists and either nothing is inside or you have already removed the object, the next step is to reset the device, simply unplug for 5 minutes, the plug it back in and power up. You can save time by unplugging before you go looking for a physical blockage. If there is no blockage and resetting the device fails you may need to contact Brother directly to see if the mechanical portion can be repaired/replaced under warranty. Any stored faxes are safe while unplugged for more than 12 hours so just remember not to leave it unplugged for too long. If you do need to send it away or exchange it you can back up all of your current faxes that are waiting to print by following the procedure on page 139 of the user guide, link below. Hope this helps, Chris http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc002117/Mini3_MfcLcdW_UsaEngUsr_D.pdf

do u mean the whole multi-page doc or multiple copies of the same page? the former would be what u tell it to print (whole document vs current page). The latter would be in the printer properties config page.

paper jam or some sensor problem, clear the paper jam, or clean the sensor under the pump.

Brother... • Answered on Aug 02, 2014

Thanks for using FixYa. There might be a paper jam before this error code. The paper might have dislocated the encoder strip. Please turn off the printer and push it back into its slot to resolve the issue. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Do not know brand of paper, but shcek to see if feed wheels are turning when you try to feed. If wheels are turning than they are either dirty, clean with soap and water. or the whells need replacement..

Your Printer does not have a 2-sided(duplex) printing feature, so you cannot print on both sides of the paper.

Did you have a paper jam before this happened? If yes then the paper must have pushed the encoder strip out of alignment.hen you open the printer so that you can see the print head, move the print head with your hands, pull it to the middle. The space immediately to the front of the printer is blocked by the plastic shield. you can curl your fingers down under this shield. you will feel the encoder strip, which is about 8 mm wide, and is a plastic ribbon, or strip. It runs from left side to right side across the printer, in a vertical orientation. This is the encoder strip. Past this you can feel a longer rubber belt, which is about 3 mm wide. This is not the encoder strip, it is a belt and you don't need to be concerned with this.Place your fingers on the encoder strip on either side of the print head, and flex it, bending it up and slightly back and then release it. Try this several times. Do this with power on. Once the encoder strip is back into it's slot the printer will start a cleaning cycle and start working.Solution found here originally.
