Maytag MAV208DAWW washer agitates during spin cycle

Maytag MAV208DAWW washer does not spin clothes dry. Everything else seems to work OK it drains fine, no smells, no rattles or other strange noises During spin cycle it just agitates rather than spinning. I cannot spin the drum by hand when it is in this mode. It appears that brake is on. But if I grab the agitator and try to hold it still, the brake releases and it begins to spin. However, the spin is not very strong, and is easy to stop by holding the drum. I have disassembled the thrust bearing at the bottom and it appears OK. What is the likely solution?

There’s a Cam / bearing kit that is fairly inexpensive that releases brake when spinning. It may be worn. It’s underneath machine under big yellow center pulley. If it’s not that, it’s most likely the transmission that’s bad.

SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

SOURCE: Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

What will cause the washing machine to not spin fast enough to spin the clothes dry or not spin the fabric softener out of the agitator cup?

If your towels are coming out the dryest it is probably a problem with it being off balance. Did you make sure that the clothes are even placed in the washer. If you have a bunch of heavy stuff on one side and light stuff on the other side it could cause the same problem.

Hello I have a Maytag Washer Model A512 The machine goes through a regular cycle OK - However, it DOES drains the water out during the rinse cycle, but does NOT drain the water out during the spin...

The timer will always advance to the next program if the machine does not fully drain. There is ALWAYS a spin when draining the water out, there is only one pump and one motor. The waterlogged laundry maybe telling the timer that there is still water in the tub. Put the machine on "Spin" and cheat the lid switch into thinking that the lid is closed. Use a clothes peg or wide ended screwdriver and see if there really is a spin....

My washer''s agitator spins but not the drum during spin cycle.

If you see the agitator moving, but not the tub..I guess, you have a defective transmission..this is tough without knowing a little more info.

If the motor has a transmission, it could be stuck in 1st gear. I think the agitator running is normal.
