I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone?
When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work.
If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP.
If you can verify that, we can go from there.
The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would
be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is
plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without
splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another
wire or jack
First pick up the handset and make sure you have a dial tone on the line.Second thing to check is to make sure that your fax machine set to "FAX" mode, not"PHONE"mode, and it is in auto receive, not manual receive mode.
Hi sythonk 1. Make sure you have a telephone cable connected the jack labelled "LINE" on your brother machine. Go through the Menu on the LCD, Initial setup, dial tone, choose the correct dial tone PULSE or TONE. Exit from the menu. Pick up the handset on the fax machine, and dial your nuber to make a phone call. (To send a fax, dial the number without lifting the handset.) Hope this will work for you. If it solved your problem, give a please rating Cheers luciana44
first make sure there is a dial tone on the line, next reset up the machine in send and receive mode. if all of this fails, then you have a bad ncu board which is the phone board
If you have a hand set try to use it as a phone. If no dialing tones are present check the phone line connection. If the fax is well connected there is a good chance that you need a part for the machine.
Do you have the same problem with different numbers that you fax to? Are you usinga voip phone service? I use Vonage and have a lot of trouble with faxing. Call the number you are faxing to with a different phone and listen for a fax tone.
