I have been trying to retrive the DTC's from my 95 lumina. I tried the OBD-I process, but the MIL did not flash the codes. I bought an CAN OBD-I & II tool, but the reader tells me that the tool is not...

On some 1995 OBD 1 models with a 12-pin Data Link Connector, trouble codes can be accessed by connecting terminal B to terminal A with a jumper wire. With the key in on position, the codes can be read by watching the "service engine soon" light. HOWEVER, some models have a 16-pin DLC and you have to jump terminals 5 and 6 to get the trouble codes to flash.

Try any parts store and see if they will read codes for you. Then post those codes and we will go from there.

Retriving messages remotely

Hi Ern, Usually the phone has a default code you dial when you attempt to get messages from your home answering machine.
Try calling your home, let the machine pick up, after your message is heard dial 1234. Your machine should recognize the tones and play your mesages back to you. I just happened to read that earlier today while setting up a new message on our office phone.
Hope this helps, RadioWidgets
