Make sure you delute it with water. yes fabric softner will start to stain your clothes if you use too much of it. I would recomend stop useing it for a while. so you can clean the washer out. There is a product called Washer magic or Affresh that cleans out residues built up in your washer. or you can just run several loads of HOT water and bleach to clean it out. The hot water will melt the left over fabric softner in your washer. Fabric softner is kind of like hardend bacon fat thats what it looks like in your washer after time and if you do not clean your washer it builds up and builds up.
Also i do recomend alternating liquid detergent and powdered detergent. The reason why is powder leaves a residue that liquid takes away and vise versa. try this and let me know how it goes
