Machine will not scan, blue light only blinks.

When paper is loaded and the machine is on, I press the green scan button and the blue "power" light flashes but that's all. The machine will not scan. This condition has been gradually getting worse over time and now the machine will not scan at all. All drivers have been loaded into my computer and it was professionally installed about 3 years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Gail's posted solution applies to a different scanner than the one in question but may work just the same. Sorry I did not see the model number prior to posting - mine is a S1500 model.

Before uninstalling/reinstalling everything, try just unplugging/replugging the usb cable from the back of the scanner. we get this quite a bit here at work, and that's all we do to get it working again. have you upgraded your system, like from xp to win 7? if so, go to the fujitsu website and download the new drivers.

I have had this problem before also. What I ended up doing was shutting down my computer, turning on the scanner opening it all up so you can load it and ensure it is hooked up to the computer, restart the computer, open the program itself but then scan by pushing the flashing button on the machine, not using the program. I am not sure if yours will work this way or not but good luck.

I'm going through the same problem. You will have to uninstall all of the software and go over each step to reinstall it. Follow them exactly. If you do step 4 before step 3, you could end up in this situation. Make sure the Scansnap isnt plugged in while you're reinstalling it.

Also, try other USB ports.

SOURCE: using M4097D with XP pro

If the second time will work ..it means it has no physical issues and it may be just a software related one ..or just a matter of warming up ..For some reason if you open it up and use it right the way it does that ..The reason may be probably the fact that until the first job ...no one turns it on ..try to turn it on when you start the work day ..and see if this makes a difference ..
Also if you still have the original driver and software ..reinstall it ..from scratch .(remove the old driver completely ) .and see what it is the result..
Another issue with all scanners is the internal memory ..and will not perform well when the job is commanded from the scanner ..The correct way is to insert the document or photo ..and to open the software in the computer and command the print ..This way the print preview will appear and have the possibility to save it in the library..or copy and paste it anywhere without involving the internal memory ..
If this will continue ..and maybe make worse..it may be just a matter of a capacitor or something that will not work well until warms up ...

THE ORANGE LIGHT IS ON AND NOT PRINTING

Blinking Attention Light HP LaserJet 1320 Series Printer - The printer displays an orange blinking attention light which will not clear. This usually indicates one of the following issues have occurred. Perform the following in the order provided to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
1. Insufficient power. Disconnect the power cord from any surge protectors or power strips and plug the unit directly into an electrical wall outlet.
2. There is a paper jam in the printer.
3. The top cover is open. Open the top cover, reseat the print cartridge, and close the top cover, making certain it is shut properly.
4. No paper was loaded in tray 2 or the tray was not loaded properly causing a mispick. Perform the following steps to load tray 2.
A. Pull the tray out of the printer and remove any paper.
B. Move the blue side width guide outward to match the paper size that is being loaded. Locate the blue guide pointer on the left side of the tray. If using a letter-size (8.5 by 11 inch) paper, match the guide point with the LTR/LGL engraving located on the bottom, left-side of the lift plate.
C. Locate the blue tab on the rear paper-length guide. Locate the triangle-shaped pointer in the middle-right on the bottom of the tray. Press on the blue tab and adjust it so that the triangle-shaped pointer matches the paper size that is being loaded. If using letter-size (8.5 by 11 inch) paper, match the triangle-shaped pointer with the LTR engraving on the bottom of the tray.
D. Place the paper in the tray and make sure that it is flat at all four corners. Keep the paper below the height down arrows on the paper-length guide in the rear of the tray.
E. Slide the tray back in the printer.
5. The tray 2 paper level indicator is stuck.
6. If the printer comes back to a Ready state, print a Self-Test/Configuration page. If the printer is not in a Ready state, proceed to step 7.
A. Verify the printer is in a Ready state. (The green LED next to the U-shaped icon is on steady and no other lights are on.)
B. Press down on the green GO button until the orange Attention light comes on (approximately 5 seconds), and then immediately release the GO button. The green GO button will begin to blink and a Self-Test/Configuration page will print.
7. If the attention light is still on, perform a cold reset. A cold reset, sets most, but not all, default variables stored in NVRAM back to the factory default values. It typically does not reset the page count, paper tray sizes, localization language, or formatter number. Complete the following to perform a cold reset.
A. Turn the printer off.
B. Press and hold down the green GO button.
C. Turn the printer on and continue to hold the green GO button for at least 5 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. During the process, the Attention LED will turn on.
D. Release the GO button.
NOTE: If both the Attention light and the Ready LEDs turn on before the GO button is released, the cold reset procedure must be started over at step 1.
E. The printer LEDs begin cycling. The cold reset process runs until completion and the printer returns to the Ready state.

Machine flashing load paper message even though paper is loaded

Hi ...

Most of the time this problem comes when the paper is not loaded correctly. Follow the below instructions to load papers to the cassette and I am sure this will resolve your problem. I will keep monitoring your responce and if required, i'll look for a work arround.

Follow this procedure to load paper / envelope in the cassette:
  1. Pull out the cassette from the machine.

    p_ch03_070_e.jpg

  2. Remove the cover from the cassette.

  3. Fan out the sheets of paper so that they do not stick together.

  4. Align the edges of the paper.

  5. If the cassette is not yet extended, use your thumb to press the tab (indicated by the pink circular outline) and release the latch.

  6. After the latch is released, remove your thumb from the tab. Then extend the cassette until a click is heard.

    05sj00149_02.jpg

  7. Load paper on the upper-right corner of the cassette with the print side facing down.

    Note:
    * Since the Credit Card sized paper, Canon Photo Stickers, and Legal sized paper cannot be fed from the cassette, load them in the auto sheet feeder (ASF).
    * When loading A5 or larger sized paper (nonstandard-size paper: 203mm / 8inches or more in length), extend the cassette by pinching the tab.

  8. Grasp the paper guide (A) and align it to the long edge of the envelope stack (2). Align the front edge of the paper stack in the same way (3).

  9. Close the lid and push the cassette all the way into the printer.

  10. Press the <Open> button and pull out the extension completely.

  11. Press the <Feed Switch> button to turn on the Cassette light.

    Note:
If the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp lights, press the Feed Switch button to light the Cassette lamp.

Offline and blinking lights

A couple suggestions. Unplug the usb cable from the pc to the printer, make sure there is no paper jammed in the machine, unplug the machine from the wall and see if you can move the print head left to right freely. If nothing is obstructing it plig the power cord in with out the usb cord plugged in. See if the machine goes to ready. If all of these fail, that means the main board has been damaged by a power surge, and it would be cheaper to replace the machine than repair it. Good luck!

Help please. can't print: paper light flashing even though there is paper in printer

To fix the NON EXISTANT paper jam:

Status light is on, paper light is on - you can hear the paper feed trying to "grab" the paper, but it can't,  and status light goes Red.

Take out paper tray

Reset the blue paper holders, move them tight against the paper so the paper is snug against all blue barriers. Cause: Somehow the blue paper holders got dislodged and the paper is not snug so the feeder is trying to grab paper that  is slightly out of reach.
