Cannot turn bidirectional printing on - box is greyed out

I get an error message when I try to print a document. I checked the printer settings under the "advanced" menu and made sure the "start printing immediately" and the "enable advanced printing" features were checked. When I go to the "ports" menu and try to "enable bidirectional printing" the box is greyed out and I am unable to check the box. Is there a solution for this error? Could this have something to do with administrator permissions?

No the ink is not to low you could try removing the ink cartridges and using a soft cloth wipe clean the little gold contacts on the cartridge and also the printer. Is the ink cartridge a original one if not even though the HP software states that there is 20% in there the likely thing is that the cartridge is empty replace and this should be OK.

I hope the first suggestion works for you as will not cost any money.

Thanks J

Dear sir;I believe you can try " cold reset", that's means going to clear all data from the printer memory and sets all the defaults back to the factory settings.performing a "cold reset" resets the jetDireect configuraion. to avoid making changes to yourconfiguration, remove the jetDirect card before performing a cold reset. if possible, print a configuration page prior to performing a cold reset. this will document current settings for later reference.
to perform a cold reset;
1, turn off the printer.
2, while pressing "go", turn the printer on. COLD RESET appears briefly on the display, then INITIALIZING appears.after a few seconds, RESTORING FACTORY SETTING appears on the display, followed by OFFLINE.the cold reset is complete.
3, press "go" to return the printer online "ready " appearson the display.
Little bit complicated but is easy ,hope can take care your problem, GOOD LUCK! Let me know the resolve please!
HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY !!!

I have an HP Color Laserjet 4600. I am printing a large 46 page document with many graphics and photos. Randomly, a page will print without half of the picture or with words left completely off. I have...

In the printer driver's properties page, disable the bidirectional support.

Start => Control Panel => Printers =>
right click on your printer =>
Properties, under the 'Details' tab click "Spool Settings" and down the bottom you can choose not to support bidirectional support

Your step bt step may not be exactly that depending on your OS. For instance, in Windows 7, this setting is under the PORTS tab

Since you didn't specify what OS you are running, that's the best I can do for the moment.

Last week I installed Windows07 and now my Lexmark printer series 3400 will not print. I keep getting this message: Please turn on Enable Bidirectional Communication setting in tne properties dialog. ...

go to your "printers and faxes" screen. In windows 7, it may just be called printers. You should see your printer listed there. right click on the printer and choose properties. At the top of the next window, there will be several tabs. click on ports. you should see a box that says Enable Bidirectional Support. put a check in that box. If that does not solve it, then contact lexmark about a Windows 7 driver.

Lexmark X2500 is giving Bidirectional communication error message

Make sure that the "Enable Bidirectional Support" checkbox is checked: Go to "Control Panel"->Printers->Right click on the print Object->Properties under "Ports" tab, enable this check box if not already enabled. If you using vista make sure you do this from an "Admin" account, you may also need to select the "Run as Administrator" option after you right click on the "PrintObject".
