Brother DCP-120C Printer - Does not print black, Black and magenta cartridges renewed with new Brother cartridges. Black ink level reset OK but not magenta. Have tried automatic head cleaning but still no black ink on paper.

If the printer is new, it could be defective.
Take the printer back to where you bought it,
and get them to either demonstrate that it does work,
or for them to repair/replace it.

Plug in your machine while you hold the stop button, with all the full inks installed, sometimes this machine can be stubborn.

Your model uses 4 ink catridges for printing black, magenta, yellow etc. If you have one , get 3 more.

did you take the tape off the new cartridge and is the print head burned out for the black? if you installed the diagnostic's on it then run it and see what it says, otherwise expect the print head to be cooked, however it is possible to get a bad ink cartridge try tapping it on your finger and see if ink comes out if it does not then the ink cartridge is dried out or no good, about %15 of print cartridges are bad on just about any brand printer some more than others.

I have put new ink cartridges into the machine and I get an error message... yellow and red are empty . It will not print either.

good chance....Print head is blocked very common, what sort of inks were used?

 

 Not economical to repair, buy new! 

after replacing the ink cartridges it took several cleans to come good. I have no idea how to "manually" clean the heads. So I told the printer to do it many (about 7) times. It eventually worked
