I have a Brother DCP-110C printer that indicates "Empty Yellow Ink" and "near Empty Magenta Ink" even though the cartridges have been replaced with new ones. Apparently, the counter does not reset. I have been able to sort of get around this by removing and reinserting the cartridges in the past but this no longer works. Is there another way to "reset" the counter and use the printer as it will not print at all (even just black) if any cartridge is empty. I also tried reinstalling the software with no help. Thanks.

place the printer cartridge into a small amount of water to make sure the yellow is flowing out. Let me know what this finds and try it again if yellow comes out.
Also, what exactly did you clean, the metal contacts?
It sounds like the heads are clogged...may be cheaper to get a new unit than to have that unit professionally cleaned; however, if you choose to go that route, remember to go to the ink section first to check the prices of ink cartridges before you buy a printer since once you buy the printer if the ink is high, you are stuck with it. A good sight to use to check on printers is Dealtime. They give you a drop down window to select by price, or most popular...http://www.dealtime.com/xFS?KW=printers&CLT=SCH
Hi matt651, I had the same problem with the DCP-350. As soon as one of the colour cartidges was empty, which happened frequently due to the high ink loss during the cleaning process, the machine stopped working, even when I only wanted to print using black. This is how i worked around the problem using a piece of grey card stock: The tanks have a small clear window that lets you see the ink in the cartridge. This window also triggers a photocell which sits in a little black fork at the back of each of the printer's ink cartridge slots. When the ink levels are up, the cell is blocked, thereby indicating a full cartridge. When the ink level in the cartridge drops below the photocell, the cell switches over, indicating an empty cartridge. So in order to simulate a full ink catridge I removed the offending empty one and instead slipped a piece of cardboard into its slot, thereby fooling the photocell. And hey presto, when I switched the printer back on, all ink cartridges thus manipulated were shown as being "full" and I could continue printing. Kind regards, Rog
i bought new inks and inserted them , when in fact its only the yellow inks is empty yet it sends me message that found no cartridges.. waah. this printer been with me for 8 years and had it clean last year only.. what to do?
Why does my machine's LCD show "NO CARTRIDGE" even though I have already installed all the ink cartridges?
Description:
If the message "NO CARTRIDGE" remains on the LCD after you have installed the ink cartridges, then one or more of the cartridges may not be properly installed. Verify that the cartridges are installed correctly by following these steps:
Note
Cartridges that have already been installed are no longer vacuum-sealed, so it is very important that these cartridges remain upright. If a cartridge is removed from the machine and placed on its side, air may be introduced into the ink supply tubes. As a result, repeated cleaning will likely be required before normal print quality is restored.
Unplug the machine from the AC power outlet, wait approximately 10 seconds and then plug it back in. If the date and time appear on the display, the issue is resolved. If the display continues to show NO CARTRIDGE, continues to Step 2.
Open the scanner cover by lifting it from the right-hand side until it locks securely into the open position.
Remove the black ink cartridge by pulling the white plastic hook (locked over the edge of the ink cartridge) toward you, then lifting the cartridge out.
The LCD should prompt you to install the black ink cartridge.
Reinstall the black cartridge. Press down FIRMLY on the top of the cartridge until it is fully seated. Push the white plastic hook towards the cartridge to verify it is fully latched over the cartridge's top edge. Repeat STEPS 2 - 4 to verify each that of the color cartridges (magenta, cyan and yellow) is installed properly, then continue to STEP.
Close the scanner cover. The unit should begin cleaning automatically.
