The machine stopped spinning. on opening the back belt saw that belt had come off. replaced the belt but then when on spin cycle it now makes a loud grinding/whining sound. tried tightening the mounting for the drive pulley ( which i'd mistakenly loosened whilst refitting belt). improved a little but problem still remains. also tried pressing start button and button to the left (as stated on another post) so lights were scrolling and then move the dial around slowly clockwise etc. what else do i need to do? any advice would be greatly appreciated jon.

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.

You can't tight up the tub. You should replace the damper pads that located beneath main support housing on base's machine. Goog luck !

There are 2 things you can do.
All washing machines have an off balance shut off, some are touchy, some let it run around the house. With wht machine empty, lean it towards you, on the 2 front feet, about 2 or 3 inches and let it drop. The self leveling feet in the rear must BOTH make good floor gontact and sometimes, just the weight of the machine will not adjust them. The other thing is, make sure the load is evenly distributed. Coats, blankets, small rugs etc. are very heavy when wet and they tend to throw all of the weight to one side.
There is no screw holding the yub in place. It hangs on the center post, where the agitator goes. There is however, what's called a snubber. It is a rubber device that looks like a flattened suction cup, that comes in contact with the tub. It helps keep the tub from jumping around too much.

You are right!
Bearings have to be replaced. Replace with the same type and design. All the bearings connected to the washer center shaft has to be replaced at the same time with new set.
Replace the water seals also connected to this. Check the shaft where the bearing sits, for any abrasions or metal damage.
Check the bearing housing also. While carrying out these repairs check the drive belt also. If needed replace it.
If you are happy with the machine outer body and other aspects repair it and re-use it.
