It will be much easier to replace the whole rewind unit. They are a pain to repair and there are many other things to go wrong with a worn one. Replace the unit.

Can you replace dyson on/off switch dc05 turbobrush

There are a number of places that list replacement switches. There are also a number of DC05 models, though the power switch is not likely to vary across them. Amazon, for instance, has a Dyson Switch for models including the DC05 and six other models (see here
Dyson Switch Dc03 Dc04 Dc05 Dc07 Dc08 Dc11 Dc14 On Off )

This video (ostensibly for a DC08, but the procedure should be pretty much identical) shows how to take the unit apart, get at and test the on/off switch, and replace it if need-be.

Hi David,

Unfortunately the DC05's Motorhead is supplied as a complete assembly, so we're unable to offer individual components to repair your Motorhead. If you'd like to order a replacement Motorhead assembly, you can do so via our Helpline on 0800 298 0298, or through our online store:

My DC05 does not switch on. I have checked and confirmed the fuse is ok and washed & dried the filter

You can sometimes tell from the "feel" of the switch if this is a problem with the switch itself. However, by far the most common cause of the "won't switch on" problem is damage to the flex. Dysons are often let down by the quality of their flex, and it's quite common for the copper wire in the flex to break (compounded by the fact that the plastic tends to become brittle, especially if the flex has not always been fully unwound in use). This usually happens where the flex is subject to the greatest strain and bending - where it leaves the plug and at the other end which (sadly for a DC05) is inside the rewind reel. There may or may not be visible external signs of damage.
If you want to know what's involved in fitting a new flex and reel, go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC02 cable replacement". The person who set up that site hasn't done a page for this job on a DC05, but the DC02 is similar. His "DC05 motor replacement" page shows you how to dismantle the 05 and get to the cable reel.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

My dyson dc 05 cable retractor will not retract cable

Sounds like your cable reel mechanism is broken. Go to this link to see a step-by-step guide for replacing the reel. You will need to order it from a spares provider. Google is your friend. Prices around £23.

What tool do I need to open a Dyson DC05??

What tool do I need to open a Dyson DC05??
Posted by fixdaddy on Apr 24, 2008
I have a DC05 vacuum cleaner with a few minor problems which I am sure could
easily be fixed if I could open it up. The problem is that the fasteners
(presumably screw heads) are recessed so deeply in the plastic moldings
that I cannot reach them with any tools to find out whether I have the right
one.
Has anyone on this vacuum ever successfully serviced a DC05 to know what
tool is needed so I could buy one.
Thanks in advance

How to remove wheel to access cable storage area? Then ... How to replace electric cable.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
I checked with some of my contacts in the vacuum business and they told me that it may not be a United States vacuum and it might be a Canadian or European vacuum and may not be customer friendly to service, if you have a contact with a MAC or Snap On dealer or a metric auto store – show them the screw and they might have something to fit or release the screw head, as per the removing of the wheel and replacing the electric cable, check with your local vac dealer or you may want to check with the Dyson dealer website and or phone # listed below:
