Starts to wash but seems to get stuck when it comes time to spin. I hear it start, then it stops and timer does not change. Water at bottom of machine, about 3 inches will not drain. Spin only does not do anything. No error codes are showing
If if water is still in drum at end off cycle then it wont go into a finel spin this is due to the water still in the presure tube that gose to presure switch this then gose from switch to pcb or timer , mane problems for not spinning is motor brushes won, pump not draining drum or pcb or timer ,if water is still in drum at end off cycle check that pump is working and make sure pump fittle is clean, hope this helps someone
If your machine is a FAV6800A to FAV9800A here is the Service Manual.
If you lift the washer lid and rotate the wash basket CCW which is the Spin Cycle direction will it turn with very little resistance? It should not rotate CW.
With no error codes I would go to Service Mode page 14 of the Service Manual and read the current recorded Daig codes and write them down then clear the list.
Now start a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket let it in that mode for about 5 minutes. Hit the off button to end the Spin Onlly cycle then check the Diag code block and see if an error event was logged if so please let us know.
If there is no error code generation by the Control Board in the Diag code blocks I would suspect a Control Board issue with your no Spin issue..
Without a known good Control Board and Motor Controller to swap out and no error code generation by the Control Board this would be a hard problem to troubleshoot.
The Control Board is under warranty for 5 yrs you could try Maytag Customer Service the number is in the SM and see if they will send you one even if the warranty is up…..Rich
ridiculous? That’s out in left field two ball parks over. As I mentioned with no error codes the troubleshooting is a bit more challenging but not impossible. I purchased Control Board and Motor Controller on ebay used for under $35 each and they are verified known good in my test machine.
Do you know how the service tech evaluated the Control Board as defective? Did he go into service mode to check the machines stored Diag error code blocks?
As I mentioned I would try Maytag and see if they will send you one. I got them to send me one; I told them a service repair person (me) knows that the item is defective.
My machine was still in the 5 yr warranty period in Dec 08.
The part number for the Control Board is; 25001217 that link will take you to Appliancezone.com you can throw the p/n in their price checker.
Sears Parts Direct for other parts reference.
You can pump out the excess Tub water with this process from the Service Manual;
I would go to page 16 of the SM lower right hand part of page, Board Output Test and turn on the drain pump in service mode to pump out the tub.
Enter Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously for three seconds or the display reads “00”
Pressing the Delicates key will lock the lid. Now press the Presoak key the drain pump will turn on. Turn off the drain pump with the off button or hit the Presoak key.
Good luck……Rich

thank you! Mr. Serviceman determined it was the controlboard and wants to charge me $879 to replace it....he could not give me a breakdown of parts v. labor. Is it just me or is this ridiculous?
