SOURCE: Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830

Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.

There is no chip resetter for this model at this time. However, one is to be available in the near future. So for now you must purchase new/refilled cartridges.

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP500 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. Ive replaced the ink in my Pixma MP170 using a kit, but noe it does not print also the status of the quantity of ink shown on screen sats its empty, is there a reset button or function i need to activate?

You need to reset the chip that is on the front of the cartridge, that chip says it's empty. You can get the chips and a resetter from the same place you find the refill ink.

PIXMA MP170

I got that same message and, in desperation, read the manual. It turns out I had skipped the last step in installing the ink cartridge: "Push up on the cartridge until it clicks into place". When I opened the printer back up and pushed the cartridges up, they did indeed click into place, and the error went away.
