SOURCE: Bad smell in our washing machine LG Front Loader WD-8074
Hi,
You don't have to drain all the water out after each use, you just need to clean things up a bit.
There is a problem with the design, in that the drawer area is a breeding ground for mould.
There will be a latch on the drawer you need to press to remove it - take it out and wash it in a hot solution of borax. Alternatively bleach it, and then wash in hot detergent.
Use a spray cleaner designed to kill mould and mildew, and use it with a brush inside the drawer apature to remove all mould build up. It's quite a grotty job - but needs doing.
After that, use a cloth to clean as far back into the pipe as you can.
Do two washes on hot with bleach, then a rinse, and it's good to go.
It is most important you leave the drawer open after a wash, and the door open more than 2" on these machines to prevent it, and a hot wash occasionally for whites. Tell the manufacturer that you won't be buying their brand again.

Yup! I have the same issue with a WE206BNW (Canadian model). Did the same thing - dried the water off the door and leave the door open when not using it. Sort of helped, but then I ran an empty light load with bleach through it - no clothes, just water. Helped a lot.

SOURCE: Front Loading LG Washing Machine leaves smelly sludge in wash tub
This machine has a tub clean feature that you're supposed to run with bleach. I did this and it helped the smell s bit. Recently we had an error code and the repair man that came to fix it gave me some good tips. His experience has been that the smell is from too much soap causing build up in the seal and along the tub. His suggestion was to cut back on the amount of he detergent (he said a tablespoon is sufficient). His company recommends using a product called Whirlout (you can buy it at Home Depot). It was originally meant to clean scum out of hot tub jets. Apparently if you call LG they will recommend this product, but haven't bothered to suggest it in the owner's manual. I was told to put one to two capfuls directly into the tub (not the detergent bay) and run the tub clean cycle. I used it last night and it worked - no more musty, yucky smell!
