Well it would be helpful to know exactly what is getting hot but guessing the problem its perhaps the drum bearing failed and needs replacing.

Make sure all springs are still in their place tilt the machine back and look under it and you can see them. 2nd all legs must be level as well as the floor.

SOURCE: My washer makes a loud noise in the spin cycle.

In my experience with 417 Frigidaires is that when there is a noise in the spin cycle as you describe the drum bearing is failing. This is a very expensive repair that that when I looked up labor and parts could exceed 600 smakeroos.

It sounds like you have a motor coupling that is broken. There are videos on YouTube to show you how to repair this. Search for "motor coupling repair on direct drive".

Have a unit that started making noise comparing to a loose coin in the tub during the spin cycle and has now turned into a loud binding type noise, doesn't seem to spin as fast either. Any idea what...

The main center bearing is going bad that's why it is not wanting to spin as fast and is also making the loud noise when its spinning i.e. sounding like a jet engine firing up or metal grinding noise. I would not repair this very expensive cost around $300 to $600 to fix I would go buy a good quality used one or a new one sorry for the bad news but that's what it is I see 2 of these a week in my shop same problem but hope this helps.

Machine making a very loud noise when it spins

Sounds like the bearings are broken and it may need a major repair. You may need to consider to buy a new washer machine.

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Loud noise during spin cycle

this is my experience repairing the maytag washer Atlantis mav series 9750 aww, I had to replace the spin bearing since it was making a jet engine noise when it was spinning out the water. its not an easy job for my 1st time taking this machine apart, you literally take it all apart to get to this bearing, but now I can show how to do it with pictures making it easier for you to do it. even if you have to replace something other than the spin bearing, this how to tutorial will show you how to get to most of the parts in this machine
