Machine made a loud noise during spin cycle but it continue the washing cycle. Recently the noise got louder with heavy smoke coming from the washer and stop completely. After a while I start it again and do the spin but the loud noise remain the same.
This is my experience repairing the maytag washer Atlantis mav series 9750 aww, I had to replace the spin bearing since it was making a jet engine noise when it was spinning out the water. its not an easy job for my 1st time taking this machine apart, you literally take it all apart to get to this bearing, but now I can show how to do it with pictures making it easier for you to do it. even if you have to replace something other than the spin bearing, this how to tutorial will show you how to get to most of the parts in this machine

Spin bearing is rusted from a water leak under the tub. Forget it, buy another brand.

Having the same problem...Bought our Neptune new in 1999. The spin cycle is getting very loud...kind of like a hollow echo noise...my first inclination is a bearing going out. Looks from the postings I am probably correct and I don't believe it would be cost effective for me to pay to have it repaired. We will see.
