Unit is a 690 S #P1520647, built 1999. ice maker drips water from behind bottom grill near left side of freezer box.

Look in the freezer floor to see if you have ice built up and over flowing into the floor. If so you have a clogged drain line which is located in the freezer behind the lower basket in the litttle gap at the bottom of the back wall. If you don't have that, the water line that runs to the water in the door is located at the front left side as well and you can get to that by pulling off the bottom piece of plastic that runs along the bottom of the whole machine.

its hard to ck a valve that drips / and the ice maker may be over filling . if ice cubes are stuck to gether it is over filling . if driping . it may be a bad valve that does not shut off tight. I would replace the valve .. ****

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Replace the water valve behind refrig , where the wall water line connects to on refrig .

First we have to determine if the problem is a faulty water valve. Reason: faulty water valve can continue to supply water even after the IM or door dispenser is finished calling for water causing a drip feed freeze up problem, or water overflow condition in the ice maker (IM). Another common cause is unrelated, but caused by a blocked drain line often resulting in thick ice build up on the bottom of the freezer, water dripping onto the floor, or water dripping into the refrigerator (top freezer mount models only) and freezing near the lights or damper ducts after defrost. Fix for this problem is to remove evap panel and clear freezer drain line with hot water or compressed air. If this is not the case, and water is dripping out of IM supply line, remove IM H20 supply line from IM at back of appliance and see if the water seems to drip out, if so, replace the water valve. If water doesn't drip out at all, replace IM, or IM module depending on the model of refrigerator that you have as contacts in the IM are also responsible for calling for H20 supply. You will have no more problems after this.

For original poster: Check all milky white colored (polyethelne) plastic water lines. These lines tend to get brittle and can crack over a period of time. They extend from the water valve to the ice maker, and from the water valve to the inside of the refrig to a "radiator" so the water can chill, before it runs back out the refrig, past the left side of the refrig behind the bottom grill, through a coupler, and up through the bottom hinge of the freezer door. I'd also advise putting in a separate shut off for the water supply to the refrig so you can have water to the rest of your house when you have a problem with the refrig.

For next user with similar problem: you can check the above, but it may be that the defrost drain is plugged. (on a S x S unit, it is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment, behind the back wall.) If you have a layer of ice on the floor of the freezer, that's a dead give away of a blocked defrost drain tube, Use a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water to flush it out.

A bad freezer door seal causes condensation that freezes at the bottom of the unit. I realize you said the drip pan was full of ice, but if the drain is clogged, that will happen. If that unit has the pan at the very bottom, condensation can also contribute to this.

Check water turned on. check ice button switch turned on in fridge. remove juice storage, ice container in freezer, check ice bucket full white plastic flapper to make sure not stuck on a white peg at top. flapper must hang down and be freely movable to signal ice maker to keep busy. If up high will turn off ice maker. Lots of other parts especially heater circuits involved also: fill tube supply heater not working then frozen supply line then no ice. Look for wiring diagram in ziplock behind compressor grille. can order parts at repairclinic.com. logical design, layout, easy to get to sensors, heaters. makes sense if look at it long enough.

Our side by side Frigidaire was doing the same with water dripping out from the bottom of freezer area when the door was opened. It was a clogged drain tube (for the freezer defrost coils) causing our problem. The following steps are how I fixed the clogged drain tube which may be difficult to find and service depending on your unit and experience with appliance repair.

1st, pull frig/freezer away from the wall so you can get behind the unit then UNPLUG the electrical cord. You can leave the water line hooked-up if you have enough room to get behind the unit. Go ahead and round up a flashlight, vacuum, and whatever tool(s) required to remove screws from your unit.

2nd, MAKE SURE IT IS UNPLUGGED, then using whatever tool you need (1/4" socket for some) remove the screws from the paper (or other material) cover located on the back of unit near the bottom. When this cover is removed you should see a fan under the freezer side and a compressor unit under the refrigerator side if you have a frig/freezer with coils located under the unit instead of on the rear.

3rd, you may need to vacuum first to see it but there is a (black, dark grey, or white) drain tube located under the freezer side (near the fan in ours) running down from the freezer compartment to a plastic tray. Ours was approx 1/2" in diameter yours may be the same. Also, the tray may be built into the bottom of the unit and not be removable

4th, when you have located the drain tube you will need to gently pull it up (twisting side to side may help) and out of the retainer built into the tray so you can clean out the end. I used a vacuum and straightened paper clip to remove the crud from the tube and water started coming out while I was doing this. While you have the back/bottom cover off you might as well vacuum everything you can safely reach to help prevent the drain getting clogged again.

5th, after cleaning everything place the drain tube back into the retainer on the plastic tray and make sure you check the tube to prevent a kink. Also, the tube should not touch the bottom of the tray.

6th,replace the back/bottom cover and make sure to use the correct fasteners for whichever hole/clip they were removed from. After the cover is back on plug it back in and listen for the fan to come on. If everything sounds normal push the unit back to its normal position and congratulate your self on a job well done.
