How can I find the mean absolute deviation?

Mean absolute deviation.
Let's break it down into its components.
Mean - Average
Absolute - absolute value - sign doesn't matter - if negative, make positive
Deviation - difference from the mean

Let's do an example. Population 3 7 4 2. Total 16. Mean (Average) 16/4 = 4.

Deviations
3 - 4 = -1 absolute value 1
7 - 4 = 3
4 - 4 = 0
2 - 4 = -2 absolute value 2

Sum of these deviations 1 + 3 + 0 + 2 = 6
Mean (average) of these deviations is 6 / 4 = 1.5.

Good luck,

Paul

How do i solve equations involving absolute value

You must consider two cases.
1st case: What is inside the absolute value symbols is supposed positive. Remove the absolute value symbols and proceed to solve.
2nd case: What is inside the absolute value symbols is supposed negative. Enclose the contents of the absolute value within parentheses, put a negative sign in front the left parenthesis, and proceed to solve.
Gather the solutions obtained in the two cases. Use a Union symbol for the solution set.

How do I calculate z score on TI-36X Pro?

To convert an x value to a z-score, the formula is:
(x value - mean)/standard deviation

Example: We have a number of height measurements that have a mean of 65.25 and a standard deviation of 2.84. One value is 68.5. To convert it to a z-score: (68.5-65.25)/2.84 = 1.144

Hope this helps!

I have a qustion about the casio fx-300es calculater. I am taking a state exam and calculaters that are programable, have alphbets and make sound are not allowed. Does this calculater have any of these...

The Fx-300ES does not have any of the nifty features you are not allowed to have. You cannot program it=non programmable. It does not have a QWERTY keyboard and it is totally mute.
It does have a few variables that can be used to store values (A, B,C,D,E, X,Y but I believe that does not disqualify it.
You may want to check your state's exam website for a list of allowed calculators.

How do you solve for an inequality with an absolute value using functions on calculator? (example |x-1|<9

Sorry, the calculator cannot solve such ualities (nothing to do with the absolute function).
To find the solution set you need to study the two cases for the absolute value.
Case 1
If x-1> 0, the absolute value is x-1. The inequality takes the form x-1<9. You can solve it as x<10

Case 2
If x-1<0, then the absolute value is 1-x. The inequality becomes 1-x<9. The solution for this inequality is x>-8

Combine the two domains to find the intersection
-8<x<10

I try to graph an absolute value on my Ti 89 and I put the inequality in right but when I go to graph it my calculator says undefined variable.

If you want to graph the absolute value of a function, feed the function to the absolute value ie graph y= abs(f(x)). The calculator will take care of it. See screen captures where I draw the function y1=x^3-5x^2-3 and y2='x^3-5x^2-3'. On the first graph the function is represented and on the second the function and its absolute value.

The calculator knows how to calculate the absolute value of an expression. The name of the command is abs(

How do you work out how to find a % of a number on a calculater

a simple way to go about finding a percent value is to divide the new number by the original number. this will in turn give a decimal value. the returned decimal value can easily be converted into a percent (out of 100) value by multiplying by 100.
ie: 2 divided by 3 = .666667, or around 67% 6 divided by 4 = 1.5 or 150%
as far as i know there is no direct function to calculate percentages built into many calculators, although a small few do in fact have that ability.
hope that helps :)

How do i use the log function on my ba ii Calculator?

To calculate the natural logarithm of the value in the display, just press the LN button. If you need the common (base-10) logarithm, compute it as ln(x)/ln(10). That is, divide the natural logarithm of the value divided by the natural logarithm of ten.
