There is a button on the bottom of the player that slides from on to off. When the switch is turned to on press and hold the center button on the face of the device.

If you are saying that you had it plugged into a computer, and the first time you used safely remove hardware, and the next time you did not.
Then the device was in the read state and is stuck, you can remove the battery, then put it back in, then turn off the computer, turn on the player (if it is not working ) plug it into the computer with it turned on, and start the computer, after the computer has loaded windows, check to see if the devise is listed under my computer, if it is try the safely remove hardware and see if it works now.
I had the same problem. I had not had any problems for months and suddenly it wouldn't connect. I got on live chat w/ Sony (3 times) and finally got someone who seemed to know what they were doing. I have a Sony computer and they had to send me a link for a USB "patch". After downloading it, it fixed it.
Hi, just had the same problem after restoring my system.
You must disconnect and update your Windows Media Player to Number 11. My reinstall left me at WMP 9 and it wouldn't recognise my Clip. Go to the Windows website, follow the download instructions, and you should be fine. When you plug in the Sansa Clip or MP3, it should recognise it right away. Hope this helps!
1st way. Goto had add new hardware wizard. Have computer find new hardware. Turn your player to MTP instead of msc To do that goto player settings and change protocal. Have the computer look for new hardware that is MTP. 2nd way Don't use the easy rip. Mp3 you can drag and drop right into the folder option of the player. IF you want music video or movie's on it you have to. download Any Video Convertor http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ It changes files to mpeg or any file you mpeg is the best for the next step. Then download this. Sigmatel Motion Video http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm Its also a free. Convet the mpeg to SMV file. and drag and drop into you opal video folder. works great but takes a little practice with the settings.
I will recommend you to get a firmware upgrade for the device...if that doesnt do it, you will need to contact the manufacturer so they have RMA the device, usually update the firmware solve the problems you are having...
