Why won't the drum spin on my washing machine and can I fix it myself

Very likely the brushes are worn, these are located either side of the motor. if you are able to take the motor off the machine but don't know where the brushes are, take the motor to your local repairer who will probably change the brushes for you at a small fee plus brushes. if you are able to identify the brushes and can take them off, the carbon inside the brush holder should be no less than half and inch long. If its less they are probably worn out. get new ones and replace. be careful the carbon brush is very brittle and will break easily. I can't be more specific on changing the brushes as each machine is different.

Zanussi fs1455w not spinning fast under load. Without anything in the drum it spins fine??? Tried all speeds with the same result. Any ideas???

May be not pumping efficently. when the spin starts the initial rush of water floods into the drum from the clothes a build up of water under the drum causes a braking action on the drum and slow spin speed.. look for partial blockage in pump chamber hoses or under sink if a spigot connection. probably not the belt as it would throw off a loose belt. Check it anyway. if non of these check carbon brushes they may on the verge of failure.

Hoover CA230 1300 Special Edition Washing Machine

I had the same problem. My husband checked the carbon brushes attached to the motor and ran the machine on spin. The brushes were sparking so he assumed they were worn and replaced them and hey presto machine works fine now. The brushes cost 23.99 and were just bought from a local shop but can be bought online cheaper. Hope this helps solve your problem. Essex

No reset. Carbon brushes are worrn out. Consider changing the bearings while you have the motor apart. Se http://www.nettoparts.co.uk/shop/frontpage.html for spares.
