I had the same exact problem as you, and the only way to fix this is to return your Polaroid. I figured out that something goes wrong on the charging system and it dosent charge the battery at all, that explains why when you plug you player into you computer it starts working. You would be better off buying a high quality mp3 player.
if it has seperate batteries that come out then replace them if it dosent have seperate batteries then it has special built in batteries that need to be charged from the computer. leave it plugged into the USB slot on your compter for maybe 30-40 mins if that dosent work then the battery is fubar thus the player is rendered un useable.
I have this same player. To load a song w/o video, try plugging the player into your PC, open "My Computer" from the menu on your PC and then look for the player icon, and click on it to open. The player should have come w/software to do the same thing, but it only needs to be used for a video/song upload, or converting different formats to MP3 for the player (like FLV from YouTube).
sir u need to recover ur dead digital player and how its work follow me!!
1/ try to download a flash tool from the main site of ur product
2/visit this and keep uuuuuuuuup
try uninstalling it with the add/remove hardware opt. on control panel. check hidden devices on device list to see all devices. then plug it back in after its uninstalled. If that doesnt work try using free version of real player, it has drivers for most mp3 players and will work with many more than media player 10.
It might be cause by a corrupt firmware. You need to have a utility that restore the mp3 player to its original setting. i had exactly the same problem with my ipod shuffle 1st generation 2 years ago. Good thing Apple has that utility for me to download and until no it is still working. Try to visit and upgrade the firmware using this link for you mp3 player http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=192
