Poor color with Brother MFC-9440CN

Hi--does this really work? I would be thrilled if you could help me. I have a Brother MFC-9440CN and a MacBook Pro and am really frustrated with the color printing, or lack thereof, of the Brother. The color has never been very good and I've just been living with it but now I'm working on a project where I'm printing color images (from scanned photos) and really need it to work better than it is. I've only had it a year or so and replaced ALL of the cartridges not long ago --they're all Brother cartridges. Any advice? Thanks!

SOURCE: drum error

You need to replace the drum.

Error 5A unable to print is a problem with the high voltage power supply PCB, or with the engine PCB. A shop could tell you which one after some testing. Expensive repairs...

SOURCE: How do I reset the drum counter on MFC-9440CN

To reset the drum unit counter, follow the instructions below:

  1. Press Menu on the Control Panel.
  2. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to select Machine Info..
  3. Press OK.
  4. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to select Reset Menu.
  5. Press OK.
  6. Press the Up or Down Arrow key to select Drum.
  7. Press OK.
  8. Press 1 to reset the drum unit counter.

The only real way to make this printer wireless, is to connect its ethernet port to a wireless router and via the router, send jobs to the printer wirelessly. hope this helps. Cost is about $60-$70 for the router.

How do I set Brother 9440 MFC to print using black cartridge only?
Hello,

You can set the MFC-9440CN to print with the black toner cartridge only through the printer drivers.

If you are using Mac, this needs to be changed before you print or set a preset.

If you are using windows, follow the below steps.

1. Go to Start menu \ Control Panel \ Printers (devices and printers for windows 7)
2. Right click on the MFC-9440CN and select "printing preferences"
3. Under the "basic" tab, you will see "color mode"; simply select "mono"

My yellow toner is out and the printer will not print in just black
Hello,

The MFC-9440CN should be able to work even if one or more of the color cartridges are empty.

here's what you can do to print in black only.

1. Unplug the power to the MFC-9440CN
2. Clear the print queue on your computer so that there are no jobs waiting.
3. Right click on the MFC-9440CN printer icon and select "printing preferences"
4. Select "mono" as the color mode.
5. Turn the power back on for the printer.

Now when you print it will be in black only and it should work even if all 3 colored toner's are empty.

The problem lies with the black toner cartridge. This is a common problem in these machines due to poor design by Brother. Best solution is to replace the offending color toner cartridge.

How to check ink level on brother MFC-9440CN?
Hello,
Run the Brother Control Center. Click Device settings. Click where it says Inklevel.

A simpler way is Start-->All Programs-->Brother--> ...-->Status Monitor.
An icon will lodge itself on the tray (a printer). When icon is clicked on, the inklevels will show.
