HP LaserJet 2840 Scanner Error

When powering on this HP 2840 it says "Scanner Error 6"
What does the 6 indecate?

    Our copier is set up to be used as a basic copier and fax it is not set up to fax. Someone pressed the scan button and know Scanner Error 5 is displayed. It says to turn off then on I have done this and it still has not fixed the problem.

Scanner Error 6 for HP Laserjet AIO 2840

Finally fixed the problem... hopefully.

Tools:
1 - torx screwdriver
1 - flathead screwdriver
1 - microfiber or some cleaning that doesn't leave dust

Fix:

  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Take the ADF unit off: unplug the power connector of the ADF unit and pinch the holding brackets
  3. using torx screwdiver remove the screws on top of scanner unit
  4. using the flathead carefully lift the top of the scanner unit (including the glass)
  5. using microfiber clean the inside of the glass, especially the area with the "black/white" bars. This is the "Home" location of the scanning head. DON'T USE any spray or liquid!!!
  6. gently move the exposed scanner head (that's the thing the glows and moves) about 1/2 inch from the home location to the left.
  7. Reverse the steps above to put the glass and scanner
  8. Once the printer is on, the scanner head will be lost and will seek the "Home" location. Now that the "Home" location is clean, it will find it. Error should disappear. If it does not then you need to move the scanner head more the 1/2 inch.

Scanner Error 6, HP Laser jet 2840

Solved problem by cleaning inside of glass near moving scanner bulb. It was fairly clean except for a small piece of paper about a quarter inch long that became lodged in the corner of the glass. I suspect this was the culpret.

Make sure to remove all 8 torx screws on top the scanner unit, including the hidden two, under the keypad cover plate! Then carefully pry off the scanner cover to access the underside glass pane. I used a clean white t-shirt and the water vapor from my breath to clean, and it worked like a charm. Unit was still under a five year warranty, which probably wouldn't cover this issue anyway, and who wants to lug a 75LBS unit to the repair shop.

I can not scan on my HP 2840. here is the error message.

Scanner Error 52 is a hardware error. If turning the power off , waiting 30 seconds and turning it back on does not solve the issue the the scanner assembly might need to be replaced. Another thing to try is make sure the printer is plugged into the wall not into a surge protector. Aside from that you may need to have the scanner assembly replaced.

I noticed that this was posted in Oct 2010. If you are still waiting for an answer,
the printer has a scanner error. Power off for about 30 seconds. Power on, if
error persists, the scanner assembly will have to be replaced.

The scanner bed needs to be replaced. You can order the part from HP but it is not a user replaceable part. You can also take it to a local printer repair shop.
