To answer the question "Where can I get my network key?" Your network key is set or saved on the router setup page. To get this, just open your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) on the computer that is wired directly to the router. Then type in the address bar http://192.168.1.1/or http://192.168.0.1/ the address will depend on the version of your router, or just try both, it will ask you for a user name and password, by default the user name is admin and password is password. Once you're on the setup page of your router click on the wireless settings on the left hand panel. Then look for the wireless security settings - if the security is set to WEP - Key1 will be the network key or which ever has a tick. Or if the security is set to WPA the pass phrase is your network key. Now that you know the network you can now type it once you are prompted when try to connect to your network.

If the pass phrase has already been setup.
And you do not know what it is.
Hold the reset button down to reset to factory defaults. Reset button is between the antenna and the ethernet plug. Little large hole than the rest near the bottom of the chrome grill. Good light you can see the black reset button.
Good luck!

I need to find my wpa address & passphrase on my netgear router

Log into the router and look at the Wireless tab. You don't get to find the "passphrase" you get to create another one. It's invisible.

I want to put a pasword on my netgear to stop people using my internet its unsecure at the moment

1. Use an ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
2. In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
3. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.
4. Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu in the left-hand navigation bar.
Under SSID Name, Give a Unique name for Wireless N/w

5. Under Security Options, select WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key).
6. Under Security Encryption (WPA-PSK) > Passphrase, enter a passphrase.
7. * The passphrase may either be a string of 64 hexidecimal digits, or word/phrase of 8-63 ASCII characters.
* SAVE or KEEP NOTE of the passphrase - it will be required to connect wirelessly to your network.
8. Click Apply to save your settings.
9. Scan and Connect to your Wireless N/w on your Wireless Computer with your Password

My wireless HP prn stopped working suddenly with NetGear router

You need to go into the netgear router settings online with a computer that is attached to the router. You enter this:192.168.0.1 in the address bar to gain access. You need to know your username and password to gain access to the menu. Then check the wireless settings to see or change the passphrase. Good Luck

First time install software

The passphrase is the code your wireless router is configured with. If you do not have one you need to consult the wireless router documentation.

You may be able to use the wireless network without any security such as wpa or wep - but that means anyone could get access to your wireless network.

Installing a netgear router

Jen;

Optimum appears to be a cable company. From what I can see on their site they provide no guidance as to how to configure your router. Both pieces of information (and info from the netgear site) lead me to believe that they operate successfully with the factory default configuration in the router.

Currently you probably have an ethernet cable connecting Optimum's modem to one of your computers. That cable needs to connect to the single Internet port on the router instead of your computer. Then connect another ethernet cable to one of the 4 lan or local ports and to your computer. Plug the power into the router. Reboot your connected machine -- Assuming your computer is setup for dynamic addressing it should be working.

If this router is wireless and you have wireless computers to attach -- power on their wireless adapters (built-in adapters have a switch or button). With any luck they will access the internet successfully.

If you have wireless you probably want to change the network name (SSID) from the default name to something like jennet or something else you like.

Now to secure your wireless network, if you have one you need to consult your router's User Guide to see if it supports either WEP or WPA. Likewise check your wireless adapters (could be built in to your computer) to see if they support WEP or WPA. If they all support WPA choose WPA. If not all WPA, if they all support WEP then choose WEP. Wither will require you to configure your router and enter a passphrase. After that is completed you will need to return to your wireless devices and reboot them and when connecting to the network you will have to specifically choose jennet or whatever you named it you will be prompted one time for the passphrase -- enter it. now only computers with the passphrase can access your network.
