My lexmark X5410 will not accept the black and colored refilled ink cartridges from walgreens. It keeps reporting that the right cartridge is missing.

Refilled cartridges will not reset the ink levels. The printer will still recognize it as empty.

Please be advised that refilled/remanufactured cartridges could damage your printhead and will not be covered under warranty.

This is the same old story with Lexmark printers, you cant do any thing about it the chips have a small fuse inside them and soon as they emty it blows the fuse, and thats it so I beleave the only way is to buy new ink, or a diferent printer.
Not know any fix for them myself sorry.

Can try.
Turn printer off. Unplug power cord and other cables. Wait 30 seconds. Plug cords and cables back in.

Also seen this on the net.
Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. ink now shows with question mark but reads as full and prints fine.

but yeah, best bet, never ever buy lexmark.....:)

I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and I can't refill the Lexmark 36 and 37 cartridges. Your printer deactivates the electronics on this cartridge when the ink levels get low. Your printer needs a black and a color cartridge with functioning electronics to print. I NEVER recommend Lexmark printers. They are poorly made, don't accept refills easily, and have the most expensive ink across manufacturers and it is designed to clog your cartridge unless you use it quickly. If you keep this machine you are stuck buying Lexmark brand ink (the return program cartridges are a little cheaper though).

28 and 29 are not meant to be refilled. They can physically be refilled, but they won't work. That is because Lexmark has put in a smart chip that doesn't allow refill.
You need to buy 28A and 29A or 34 and 35, those cartridges can be refilled with no problem.

are they genuin lexmark cartridges or knockoffs? could be the printhead being clogged up aswell..if you can pull out the printhead (where the cartridges dock), see if theres gunk..if there is, carfully clean it...you can spray windex on a papertowel and let it sit on it overnight and it will allow it to be cleaned.

it is because the cartridges are non refillable..... they have a memory chip in them and can not be refilled except by lexmark thru their recycle center

Walgreens had gave me the wrong print cartridges back. They had my info on them but they belong to a HP printer instead of a Lexmark. We took them back and had to go thru a lot to get them straighten out. My cartridges were nowhere to be found so I'm sure the HP customer will be looking for their cartridges also. From now on no more refilled cartridges for me. Lexmark only! Thanks for the help.

Yes you need to have both carts in the printer

How I solved this problem was, I took out the color cartridge (which seem to be the one giving the error message) and worked only with the black ink (and chose print black and white )

My color ink cartridge had been refilled at Walgreens. The Black ink cartridge is an original Lexmark

Yes you can refill the cartridges. Also Walgreen's refill cartridges now. $10. for black and $15. for colr cartridge refills. I've been using their refills and they work fine. It's less mess that doing it myself. And they use good quality ink... But you can refill them.They also carry universal refill kits at walgreen also. Also the cartridges are not hard to find you can order them at several places online. Google x1240 for sites. Also Staples sell the cartridges.
