When it pulls paper in to start printing is always pulling in right edge first causing paper to go through printer at angle and get eaten rather than printed on.
There is a small switch on the bottom left on the front of the printer that was selecting envelope feed instead of paper feed. Changing this fixed the problem.

When the paper does not feed straight, dirty or sticky rollers can cause it to jamb or crinkle, also failure to remove all traces of paper from a previous paper jamb will cause further paper jambs. Check for tiny pieces of at the edges of the rollers, and remove these pieces of paper. The rollers may be dirty or sticky and causes the paper to not feed straight. Try cleaning the rollers with methylated spirits.
The mechanism that "pulls" the paper into the printer is not pulling the left edge of the sheet of paper at the same speed that it is pulling the right edge. So, the paper "slews".
Check those mechanisms, and/or take the printer to a qualified technician, for professional repair.
This is either due to a physical error caused by a paper jam, or incorrectly seated ink. To fix:
Press down and hold the "On/Off" button, which is located on the printer's operator panel, for one second. Wait 15 seconds and then tap the button again. Attempt to print or scan a document.
Check the paper feed tray on the front end of the Canon MX700 to see if there is any paper visibly stuck inside the printer. Open the printer cover by gripping the front edge of the printer and lifting upwards.
Grab the edge of the jammed paper and gently pull towards you to remove the paper from the paper feeder. Unplug the Canon's power cable and USB cable, and then turn the printer around.
Pull off the rear plastic cover tab and check if there is any visible paper jam. Grab the edge of the paper and gently pull toward you until the paper is removed.
Push the rear plastic cover tab back into place, and reconnect the power cable and USB cable. Attempt to print or scan another document to see if the error is resolved.
Lift open the printer's cover again and wait for the ink carriage to slide into view. Press the "Push" button on the front of the first ink tank. Pull the tank out and then push it back into place to ensure it is properly seated.
Repeat the process with the other three ink tanks, and then close the printer's cover. Power the printer off and then back on again.
PAPER ROLL REPLACEMENT Never insert paper roll if torn. Doing so will cause paper to jam. Always cut leading edge with scissors first. 1) Insert the leading edge of the paper roll into the opening. (Fig. 1) 2) Turn the power on and feed the paper by pressing . (Fig. 2) 3) Lift the attached metal paper holder up and insert the paper roll to the paper holder. (Fig. 3) DO NOT PULL PAPER BACKWARDS AS THIS MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO PRINTING MECHANISM.

Problem solved. press and hold the RESUME button on the printer (just below the power button) until the power button flashes green three times. Release the RESUME button and the paper roller will automatically clean itself. Do this twice and it should work perfectly.
