Electrolux Guardian Bagged Canister Vacuum Logo
Posted on Dec 31, 2009

Our Electrolux canister vacuum just stopped working when we were vacuuming the floor. The power does come on when the power head is attached but as soon as the power head is removed the power shuts off. I tried pressing the reset button but that doesn't help. Is there a solution that I can try at home?

Sound like you problem is in the connection going to the power head you will see a small screw on the power nozzel where it joins to the handle take out the screw and take it a part you will see where one of the bars have been disconnect from the power.

The guardian is the most complex vacuum I've ever worked on. The technology exceeds all others. Usually the problem is with the computer board in the handle. My suggestion is to take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux dealer. http://www.aerushome.com/storelocator/

I was vacuuming under my dresser using the large power head and I bumped the power head against the dresser and it stopped working.

If it doesn't work after depressing the reset button, a wire in the power nozzle may have been knocked loose. If that's the case, it will need to be taken to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for repair.

I have a Harmony vacuum and need it only for bare floors. The attachment I have seems to be too rough on the floors. I just need a simple attachment with soft bristles for a bare floor that will fit this...

Take the lower portion of your wand to a vac shop and ask for a universal fit wide floor brush with NATURAL bristle. The soft bristle is much better quality and will clean deeper into grooves in your wood floor or and tiled area.

My electrolux canister vacuum roller does not spin even though it has power.

When the vacuum is one and the switch for on for the carpet position. There is a small button the the floor attachment which we call the power head. It will b in the place of where the head becomes L shaped its either black or red. Push the button while the machine is on. If it does not work call ur electrolux dealer and have them pick it up. Or call me I'm a dealer and can have UPS pick it up no charge for u 1-866-966-9350.

Power head stops and starts

Sounds like there is definately something stuck inside it. You;ll need to dismantle the floor head carefully using a screwdriver. Make sure your machine is switched off though if it is a power head and not an air turbine turbo head. Once inside check the main roller brush as well as the side caps as these can become clogged. Also check the main dirt channel leading to the pipes of the vacuum.
Dont forget to rate, thanks.

Electrolux Oxygen Canister Vac

Did you check the powerhead drive belt. Procedures for replacement are on the electrolux website and also in the owner's manual.

Lack of Suction

There are actually several possibilities.

Check to make sure that the brushroll is spinning. The brushroll is responsible for virtually all of your pickup on carpet, and is the culprit for most complaints of "lack of suction."

If the brushroll is not spinning, listen at the head to see if the motor inside the power head is active. If you can hear it running but the brushroll is not turning, you have a broken belt. If the motor in the power head is not turning at all you may have an electrical short in the hose, the wands, or the main power outlet from the body of the canister; but before you get too involved check the power head for a thermal reset button. Some of the Electrolux powerheads are equipped with these, and some are not, so check your user's manual. If there isn't one, or if it isn't tripped, you'll need to look for electrical issues.

In this particular model it is fairly common for the electrical contacts on the wands to short out, so inspect the metal contacts to look for scorching, or melting of the plastic around them. If you have access to a VOM, check for voltage at the contacts on the end of the wand, and if it is not present, check all of the contacts sequentially back to the canister body to determine which part is not passing voltage. If you have voltage all the way through the wand, you either have a loose connection inside the power head, or the power head motor has burned out. If you have power from the canister body, but not through the end of the hose, either your hose has a short in it, or the circuit board in the handle assembly that controls the power head power has shorted out.

If your brushroll is turning, then you do, in fact, have a clog somewhere inside the power head, which a visual inspection behind the brushroll and into the elbow will confirm.

Best of luck,

-R
