There is a ball valve between the wand hose and the base hose. It can get stuck in the "base" mode, which won't then redirect suction to the wand hose. There is a spring under the cup that the open end of the hose rests in. When you release the wand from the holster with the one-touch quick release, that spring pushes the cup up and turns the ball valve to the wand setting.
  1. Unplug the vacuum.
  2. Using the one-touch quick release, remove the wand from the holster.
  3. Verify that the wand "cup" is indeed in the higher position. Do this by pushing on the bottom of the cup with your finger. It should easily depress.
  4. Remove the wand hose from the main unit using the quick disconnect feature. Put your fingers into the hole and feel to the right. You will feel the closed valve, verifying that it is stuck in "base" mode.
  5. Using a screw driver, insert the tip at the TOP of this valve and gently pry it downward. This shouldn't take much force.
  6. Reassemble the hose wand using the quick connect feature and reholster the wand.
  7. Plug in the unit and verify that the base unit has suction.
  8. Remove the wand from the holster and verify IT has suction.

El8807 - call customer service at 800-896-9756 push 1 or 2, then push 3. They sent me a new replacement, no cost. Need your Serial Number so they know date of purchase. 5 year warranty. Best vacuum ever, better than dyson and cheaper by 100%, but the brush stopped working after getting tangled. Called support and they replaced. Great. Cheers!!!

YELLO and RED mean danger - clogging, not brush turning, overheating, .... it is time to RESET -- turn it all off and let it sit for half hour - that is what the manual says, check the brush that is not clogged up and check the inlet to the hose and where the hose goes into the body from the head unit where the brush is - make sure those not clogged either. Turn it on, push the RESET button on left back side of head unit by the switch that changes height. The reset button is like a circuit breaker - stops unit when overheats, starts when reset. Yello is ERROR, and fix it before it turns red and stops all the way. Cheers!!!

Button on CARPET, lower the handle for use, turn on power and the brush turns. Handle up like for storage, brush does not turn. Bare floor button pushed, does not turn.

Check the arms that make the roller go up and down to achieve the settings. There may be something clogged in there.GOOD LUCK FRIEND

had same problem, tried for two days to figure it out. husband figured out that at the bottom of the 'cup' where the wand sits is a round protrusion in the middle--that is your answer, that is what controls the valve. he pushed down on it with a tool, we actually had a small rock in the bottom of the cup preventing the plunger from working. now we know for next time. obviously out of warranty and did not want to buy a new vacuum.

No solution but we seem to have the same problem it is as if the valve isn't working. Please don't tell me to check for blockages.

There is no belt. The brush is direct drive by a seperate motor. There is a motor reset switch that you use if the brush is not turning. If that does not fix the problem, you have to take the unit in for service http://manuals.electroluxusa.com/prodinfo_pdf/Edison/86668R4en.pdf
