Lexmark A940 (AIO) - The cartiage is showing

1. The cartridge may be dried up.
2. The cartridge contacts in the printer may be damaged.
3. Mechanical interference prevents print heads from moving.

If your cartridges are rather new but have not been used recently (a few weeks or so), they may be dried up. You can test this by removing one cartridge and applying rubbing alcohol to the nozzles. Let it sit this way for a few seconds and put it back into the printer. If your test page shows some streaks instead of nothing, that is your problem.

Open the printer cover. If the print cartridges move to the correct location for replacement, there is not mechanical interference. If the motors make noise but the cartridges do not move, there may be an obstruction in the printer. Try to clear it.

If neither of these are the case, try replacing the cartridges with genuine Lexmark cartridges certified for your printer. If this does not remedy the situation, your printer's contacts or other components are damaged. In this case replace the printer.

It shows a e and a 5 number all the time and then it says that the ink may not be compataable with the printer but it is the same ink cartridge that ive been using all the time, i pressed the reset button...

Are you trying to use a re-filled cartridge or a third party cartridge?

If so, the printer's logic may be blocking the use of the cartridge.

If you are using a factory new Canon cartridge, then you need to contact Canon Technical Support.

The printer is printing blank pages.

STEP 1: Disconnect and Reconnect the Printer Power Supply
1. Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
2. Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
3. Wait 15 seconds.
4. Reconnect the power supply to the back of the printer.
5. Plug the power cord back into the wall socket.

STEP 2: Run a nozzle clean on the Dell A940 inkjet printer.

To run a nozzle clean, perform the following steps:

1. Click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Dell Printers, point to Dell AIO Printer A940, and then click Dell Printer Solution Center.
The Dell Printer Solution Center menu appears.
2. Click the Maintenance button.
The Maintenance window appears.
3. Click the Clean to fix horizontal streaks button.
4. Click the Print button.
The Nozzle Clean function prints a page.
5. Check the Nozzle Clean Printout to verify that it is free of defects and that all expected color bars exist on the page

STEP 3: Restore the printer settings to factory default

To restore the printer settings to factory default, perform the following steps:

1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.
3. Click Printers and Faxes.
4. Right-click the Dell Printer icon, and then left-click Properties.
5. Click Printing Preferences.
6. Click to select Save Settings.
7. Under Restore, click Factory Settings (Defaults).

STEP 4: Clean the Contacts and Wick the Ink Cartridge

Wicking the cartridges and cleaning the contacts on the back of the cartridge should be performed if the nozzle clean was performed and the quality was not satisfactory.

Wicking the Cartridge

1. Ensure the printer is powered on.
2. Lift the scanner unit.
3. Open the cartridge latches and remove the cartridges from the carrier.
4. Take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the nozzle of the print cartridge from front to back

Note: Never wipe the cartridges from side to side, as this causes cross-contamination in color cartridges.

Cleaning the Contacts

1. Turn the cartridge so that you are looking at the contacts on the back side of the cartridge
2. Using a clean dry cloth, wipe the contacts so that no dust or other contaminants are visible.

Note: Do not use the same cloth that was used to clean the cartridge nozzles. This may cause more contamination on the cartridge.

3. Clean the contact inside the printer with the dry cloth used to clean the cartridge contacts.
4. Replace the cartridges in the carrier and close the scanner unit.
5. Print the document again.
6. If the print quality does not improve, repeat the steps for cleaning the nozzles and contacts up to two more times as needed.

Then run again STEP 2. If the printer still prints in blank pages, contact Dell Technical Support. They may need to replace the Ink Cartridges.

Dell A940 AIO won't print & shuts down

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Black cartridge not printing

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell1.gif AIO A940 printer1.gif that wouldn't print black ink.

It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).

PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.
