Open your printer cover and press the ink button. The cartridge under the out of ink symbol is the empty one. The following URL has the details: http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r800__/r800__00u1.pdf#page=80
If you press the ink button again and another cartridge lines up with the out of ink symbol, record that. Repeat until the cartridge moves to the replace cartridge position. Buy all the ink you need before you attempt to replace any of the cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Epson Photo Stylus R800 Printer - Nothing is working!

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

The most likely reason is that it got bumped in the move and wires have been dislodged. As I see it you have 3 alternatives

Remove the case and look for loose connectors on the control board and internal components.

Take it to an Epson Service Centre.

Buy a new printer.

Have not used my Epson R1800 for almost 6 months. When I turn on the power the printer head, with the cartridges, stayed at the very right end, not moving. The paper and ink lights flash and the head just...

Your User's Guide is available here:

http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r1800_/r1800_ug.pdf

After leaving the printer inactive for a extended period you should expect the ink cartridges to be dried up and the print head 'gummed' in place.

You will need to refer to page 82 of the pdf, Cleaning the Printer.

As part of cleaning remove the existing ink cartridges and while the cartridges are removed try and clean the print head of any ink residue. Note that if the red light is on or flashing above an ink cartridge the printer sees it as empty (dried up).

The print head will not move if ink cartridges need replacement; replace ink cartridges according to the red lights, likely all. Press the ink button to see if the printer will begin the charging cycle. If all is well the green power light will stay on and the red ink light will go out.

If you do not get this desired outcome try Cleaning the Print Head, page 73 of the User Guide. Hold down the ink button when the red light is off for 3 seconds. Run a nozzle check pattern; if nozzels are not printing a clean pattern, repeat this process up to 3 or 4 times.

Ink red light on . which colour is out?

When red ink light flashes - one or more ink cartridges is low. When you print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).

When red ink light remains on - one or more ink cartridges is empty. When you try to print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).

Furthermore: When following the procedure for installing a new cartridge, if the red ink light was on or flashing, pressing the ink button will cause the carriage to stop with the cartridge that needs replacing under the "ink out mark" (ink droplet with a slash through it).

Epson stylus 1280 printer

Based on the lights you are already out of one or more ink cartridge or an ink cartridge is not being recognized/expended.

-You cannot print if any ink cartridge is expended.
-Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement.

Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.

1. Open the printer cover and press the INK REPLACEMENT button, located under the printer's cover. The print head moves to the center and the lights flash.

2. Lift up the ink cartridge clamp. The cartridge rises up from its holder.

3. Remove the cartridge and dispose of it carefully. If ink gets on your hands, wash them with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.

4. Unpack the new ink cartridge and remove the yellow tape. You must remove the yellow tape from the top of the cartridge. Do not remove the clear seal underneath the cartridge. Do not touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge, or you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

5. Tilt the new cartridge toward you slightly as you insert it. Lower the cartridge so that the tabs rest on the hooks. Do not place the cartridge tabs under the hooks.
.
6. Press down firmly on the ink cartridge clamp until it snaps in place.

7. If you need to replace the other ink cartridge, repeat steps 2 through 6 before continuing with step 8.

8. Press the INK REPLACEMENT button and close the printer cover. The printer begins charging the ink delivery system.

9. Wait until ink charging is finished (the power light stops flashing and the red error light goes out).

Ink carts being not recognized and you say its a brand new printer?
Heres what you may want to try.

1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the usb cable from the printer

2. Press and release the ink button once you see a solid green light and solid red ink light

3. Open up the printer cover and check out where is the ink cart holder positioned

4. It should stop in the middle part of the printer, you should see an arrow or a ink out marker (ink icon with a / with it( indicating which ink cart is out or not recognized or expended. (This is a usual process on all the epson stylus photo series I had)

5. Press and release the ink button again, it should stop to the next ink cart which you are having a problem and if it doesnt then your ready to reclamp the ink carts.

Just follow your manual usually theres an on screen instructions how to manually replace or reseat the ink cartridges. If the issue persist, you may want to contact epson, ask for a warranty procedure or what you can do next for this. (Either a bad set of ink cart or a bad print head) Good luck!

My Epsn Stylus PHOTO R300 says I need to replace an ink catridge however it does not tell me which one is out of ink. How do I find out which one to buy?

Hi,

If an ink cartridge is empty, the red error light will remain solid. You can check the status of the of the ink cartridges by looking at the icons on the control panel. Press the down arrow button to scroll down to MORE OPTIONS. The level of ink will be shown on the screen and the ink that will be out will have cross on it.

Please follow the steps below to replace one or more cartridges.

***NOTE***
-You cannot print if any ink cartridge is expended.
-Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement.
-To ensure good results on your printouts, we recommend using Genuine Epson Ink cartridges. Epson does not recommend the use of refilled inks or 3rd party ink cartridges.

Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.

4. You will now see a message on the display telling you that the ink cartridge replacement will begin. Press OK to continue. The print head will move to the replacement position.

6. Unwrap the new ink cartridge. DO NOT touch the green circuit boards, or remove ANY labels.
