Our Australian HP PSC 1610 All-in-one uses no. 94 black ink. We have moved to the UK, where no. 94 cartridges are not available. We were told that the UK equivalent is the no. 338 cartridge. When inserted, the printer gives an error message and says the no. 338 cartridge is not intended for use in this printer. What ink can we use?

Are you getting error related to incompatible ink or Ink cartridge defective and this is Genuine cartridge purchased, then check for the Expiry date on the cartridge and call HP support to get assistance.
If the cartridge is defective and if the cartridge is still in warranty, You can probably expect to get a replacement cartridge without charges.
If you are buying genuine cartridges, check the print settings, you may have it set to high resolution and for the wrong media type.
Genuine HP cartridges are fully filled, compatibles sometimes are not. 100 pages of plain text is ludicrous. I would refer this to Amazon and ask for a refund.
The only other problem may be with a leaking seal, but i would have thought that this would be apparent by now, as ink would have leaked visibly
Hi Hp 49 is available in the UK I just looked it up on www.amazon.co.uk from about £10.00 for the small ink one and about 20 for the bigger ink capacity.
I repair printers for a living and I have not heard that the 49 was out (that said I the first person to be told) Hope this helps Ian
For h.p. 1610 all in one printer. Both cartridges : hp94/95Black/Color combo. If you want to buy them seperately hp 94 Black, Color is hp95 color. Most office stores (staples etc) sell them.
There are more about 10 different cartridges for Hp PSC 1610 All-In-One printer. The most common used cartridges are 94 (black), 95 (color) and 99 (photo). You can find out all the available cartridges for your printer from this site (click here). You can even buy them from the website.
not quiet a solution dugguly but i've just had the same problem in reverse, i moved to the us with same printer, ink ran dry, it won't take hp94. after 3 phone calls and 4 emails with hp i learned that all hp printers sold after 2004 are regionalised, therefore a us printer will NOT WORK with UK bough cartridges and vice-a-versa. the only way round this is to call the HP support and ask to be taken through the step by step guide to reseting the region of your printer to the UK regional setting OR and this is my option, get friends/family in the US to ship US cartridges to you in the UK. Too bad as Tesco do a good line in gneric cartridges - Good luck - mattw
Is it a new genuine cart? If so, I have had this problem. Run multiple copies of black only text, Run 50 copies, will still spit out blank pages. Then head clean. If no black repeat. I did this for around 200-250 copies then Volia! black. Hope this helps
I had the same issue when I replaced the printer and kept the old cartridges I had just purchased. The OK button I pressed was on the PRINTER not the PC. You dont say the model printer you have. Mine is an all-in-one J6480.
