Can a 2016 frigidaire profile located in a garage in New York be kept on when the outside temps in the garage where located gets in the low 30's

While living in florida we purchased a new 2016 frigidaire refridgerator. We moved to New York in June 2019 and the brought the refridgerator with us. It is now in the garage. My brother-in-law mentioned to my husband that once the temp gets into the low 30's we need to turn it off or we will start having problems with it. He said that some fridges are not supposed to be run when the outside temp is lower than the temps set on the refridgerator. Is this true and if it is at what temp should we turn the fridge off.

There is some truth to it. Refrigerant needs to flow from high pressure to low pressure, and refrigerant pressure is directly proportional to temperature. Once the temperature drops below 40*F, for the outdoor coil, refrigeration efficiency is lost. Some heatpump units need auxiliary heat because.
Cold refrigerant condenses, into a liquid, and a compressor will not compress liquid, why its valves and internals would chatter into pieces. There is such thing as compressor crank case heaters, or belly band heaters. A heater removes, evaporates liquid refrigerant from within a compressor, it is protection.

I would get a compressor heater, wraps around the compressor belly, near 50 watts, and can use a relay to switch off the heater when the compressor runs, or let the heater work continuously.

SOURCE: Fridge problems - frigidaire

Sort of sounds like the adaptive defrost board is bad and you are not going into a defrost cycle. Do you have ice build up on the lower interior freezer section? Are the vent slots full of frost/ice? Ideally, pull the freezer shelfs out and take the little aluminum panel off the interior back to look at the coils. Are they basically a block of ice and frost? The problem happens when the unit doesn't go into defrost cycle and the coils freeze up. That blocks the air flow in the freezer so you get frozen food at the bottom but soft stuff at the top. And the frige just can't get enough cool/cold air from the freezer section to cool anymore. Power surges or blackouts, etc. can just destroy the defrost circuit board. Without good air flow the unit is not going to cool properly.

SOURCE: does outside temperature affect performance of freezer

Top mount refrigerator installed in a garage and the food in the freezer is defrosting when
the temperature in the garage goes below 55 degrees fahrenheit.
On top mount refrigerators you cycle the compressor and fan/fans from the food
compartment temperature. When the room temperature gets colder than 55 F, you have
long off times waiting for the food compartment to warm enough to trip the cold control.
This long off time is allowing the freezer temperature to get high enough that food can start
to defrost.
There is a kit for refrigerators installed in applications where the temperature can go as low
as 34 F and still maintain good freezer temperatures. The kit part number is 5303918301
and it contains a heater that mounts in the control box and an instruction sheet advising
how to install the heater.
Kit 5303918301 contains:
Part # 5303950194 Instruction sheet
Part # 241532101 Heater

SOURCE: cannot get the fridge to start cooling

If the panel temperature reads 0 F 0 F it is in the "DEMO" mode. This is normal if you purchase a floor model. To bring it back to normal mode press ENERGY SAVER & ADJUST FREEZER together for 3 to 5 seconds until it beeps. Then unplug the referidgerator for at least 30 seconds. Then plug it bck in. That will reset the stupid computer and get it back to normal operation.

HI has the temp held steady at 28? And do you notice if the fan in running in the freezer if you open the door do you hear a fan running, if you do not, then the problem is a bad control board located in the rear of the refigerator behind an small access panel this control board runs about 175-200.00 to buy.

My freezer started to defrost on it's own a few days ago. It was very cold out and is kept in my garage. I cleaned it out and thought maybe it would start back up after a couple days in the nicer weather....

When outside temps get close to refrigerator operating temp, freezer and fridge temps tend to equalize because fridge doesn’t have to run much to satisfy thermostat.

What is the low pressure for a 410a 3 1/2 York when is 90temp at fh outside.

The outside ambient temp has little effect on the suction pressure. The indoor temp is what will slightly effect the suction pressure. In the trade we say we want a 40 degree evap coil, this means approximately 125psi. This is when the indoor temp is around 74 to 78 degrees. The hotter the house, the higher the pressure. I like to see a 50 degree evaporator when the indoor temp is above 80. Charging by subcooling is the way to go!!

Frigidaire refrigerator with a broken freezer

He is correct. The temp in the refrig controls how often and for how long the refrig runs. Lets say the temp in your garage is 34 degrees, and you have your refrig set to 36 degrees: The refrig will never run, the fresh foods section will cool to 34, and the freezer will warm to 34. Even if the temp is 45 in the garage and you set the fresh foods to be 33, the refrig will not need to run long enough and often enough to keep the freezer temp cold enough. You will most likely need to have the ambient room temp at least 55 degrees to get satisfactory refrigerator performance. Insulating the refrig will not help. (by the way, outdoor beverage vending machines use an internal heater in cold weather to prevent liquid beverages inside from freezing,..... so using that info, you could put a low wattage heater in your refrig to make your refrig run enough to make the freezer section work. The %&#* with that, just move it into the house!)

Possible restricted drier

Before you start checking pressures, you need to make sure that the unit is clean inside and out. You also need to know what the ambient temp is outside so you know what the pressures should read. Without this information, your info is useless to me. You need to know what your saturation temp is to determine if the head pressure is too high or too low. If the outside unit is dirty, you will have a high head pressure and low suction pressure. If the inside is dirty, you will have a high suction and a normal to low head. My advice to you is to clean first and then start checking temps and pressures. Otherwise you are spinning your wheels.

Freezer compartment on refrigerator not cold enough

depending on the temp it could
if the ambient temp get below 32
you freezer wont come on and actually begin to get warm (insulation factor)
but the refer will seem cold because of the low ambiant temp is the temp inside
we go in the refer alot more than the freezer

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.

Frigidaire Freezer Runs Warm in Cold Weather

hi there the problem you have is that the temp in the garage is to low, the fridge part of your fridge freezer has priority and will only activate the compressor when req'd ie. in cold weather the fridge may not need to switch on the compressor for days at a time this is when the freezer will defrost.
All you can try doing is having some very low heating in your garage in the cold weather

hope this is of help.
