SOURCE: Roper gas range and oven with electric igniter

First look to see if the ignitor is coming on. Most common problem is the ignitor is weak or just bad. When the power is applied to the ignitor it glows and builds up resistance to open the gas valve then it lights. If the ignitor is weak or bad it will not build up enough resistance for gas to come into the burner. One sign of this would be a "woosh" sound when it trys to light. If the ignitor is coming on but not lighting it is most likely the ignitor is bad. Should have a full glow. Also, if the ignitor looks whiteish in color this is a sign of it going bad. You can compare to the broil ignitor to be sure. If the ignitor doesn't come on at all will need to see if you have power to the ignitor. Let me know what you find and let's solve it before you rate the solution.

SOURCE: My GE Xl44 gas burners will not ignite

If there is no spark at all then the circut is not being completed. The main problem that I had was that there was no ignition even though there WAS a spark and gas. I cleaned out the small pin hole sized inlet on the gas valve with a needle. This allowed the gas to enter the feeder and distribute the gas towards the ignition spark properly.

Also it is very important that the range be level. If there is a pitch to the range the gas may be exiting the distribution cap improperly resulting in improper distribution!

Oven not working

Gas ovens / stovetop that use gas and not electricity. These work by igniting gas and use actual flame on the the stovetop.

Newest cook top styles, such as the induction or halogen cook tops combine the same style to produce more even heating. Some of these ovens feature thermal limiters or thermostats that regulate the burner system.

GAS OVENS
The spark igniter tip is dirty (can clean it with either a little wire brush or a piece of fine sandpaper).
2) The Pilot flame is too low, and the tip of the igniter is not in the flame good enough. (the flame acts as a circuit when it touches the tip & completes the circuit).
3) The spark module is no good and needs to be replaced.(But 1 & 2 are your best bet).
spark module does not sense the flame when it's on. The spark igniter is also the flame sensor which provides feedback to the spark module.

Make sure the igniter is properly aligned with the burner lighting holes and it is clean. All lighting holes must be clean too. You can enlarge them using a drill bit one size bigger.

If it would not fix the problem, replace the bake burner and the igniter.
There is a small chance for the spark module itself to be bad as well.

The oven safety valve
(also called the gas valve) is the part that ensures that gas is not released until the igniter has reached the correct temperature needed to ignite the gas. While this part can fail, it is uncommon. If the hot surface igniter does not glow you should first verify that you have voltage to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If voltage is lost at the valve terminals then you should verify the continuity of the bi-metal in the valve using a multi-meter.

Hi there, I have a belling gas oven cooker, which when you try to ignite the oven or grill it keeps ticking but wont spark up. The gas is fine as you can light them manually and the hobs light fine so...

why would they be trying to light an electric oven ( see which product do you think they mean ) You need to check that the spark being produced is close enough to the gas outlet

Magic chef oven with uniburners oven will not light. igniter gets red hot but seems like no gas coming at all. burners on top work fine.

Hello,

Since the bake burner does glow yet no flame that means that the igniter is weak and should replaced...the way the igniter works is that it comes on and get very hot where upon getting hot it draws a certain amount of amperage which will allow the gas valve to open resulting in a flame. The igniter is indeed coming on yet its not getting hot enough to draw the proper amp drqaw to open the gas valve...by replacing it with a new fresh igniter it will draw the correct amprage and let the gas flow.

The igniter comes on but will not light the oven

The ignitor is supposed to allow enough of a spark to light the gas. It sounds like this isn't allowing the gas to light so it's probably your gas valve that's not working on this unit. If you will call or email us with the brand and the model number, we can send the proper part to you. We hope this answers your question and this should do the trick for you. [email protected]. Looking forward to working with you.

Kenmore Gas Range

The igniter needs to be replaced. I had the exact same thing happen to my oven. The igniter would glow, but after tested, it did not have enough amperage to actually ignite the gas, so the gas kept running with no ignition

Broiler Works/Oven Doesn't

Jrzy, even though you can see the bake igniter glowing, that doesn't mean it's good. Igniters actually get weak (unlike a light bulb that simply burns out). It's hooked up in series to a safety valve (the valve that allows main gas into the oven) which actually reads the amps flowing through the igniter. If the igniter is weak and the amps are too low, the valve won't open up. Replace your igniter and you'll be cookin' with gas again. Tip---> before you unscrew your old igniter, put a little liquid dish soap on the threads for lubrication. This'll ensure it comes out with no problems.
