Trying to save a pic in computer from printer it says i need to install device software

  • Jon Evans May 11, 2010

You mean to imply that you want to scan the picture, not save it from the printer. You do need to have the device software installed, which will run the scanning capability of the Photosmart C5180. You can download that software from this link:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw... Then follow the directions in the software. -J

Hi nanahison. Sounds like your computer is looking for the software that came with the printer. You should have a HP cd that came with the printer. Once you put this cd in and install everything on it, you should be able to scan the picture in. If you know that you already installed this software, there may be a corrupt file and it may need to be re-installed.

You dont need any additional software to save a file which is what a pic is. Right click on the file and select "save as", from there select the folder you want to save it in and select ok.

SOURCE: printer will not save photos to computer

For whatever reason, it sounds like the printer cannot communicate with the computer. Check all the wire connections. If all connections are good, try printing a test page using Word. If you can print a test page, that shows everything is workign properly. Next, try uninstalling and reinstalling the software that came with your printer. If you do all these things, that should fix the problem unless there is something wrong with the printer hardware. Good luck.

I have a no connection error on the printer. There is no computer connection. Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot. I am trying to save photos from camera to computer.

You camera came with either a USB cable and/or a memory card.
If you have the camera software installed, when you plug the USB cable into the camera & computer and turn on the camera, your software will open up and help you save the photos to your computer. If you have a memory card, you can remove it from the camera and insert it into the slot in the computer. Some printers also have slots and should be able to transfer the pics from those slots.
But--either way, the devices have to be on and installed properly

HP C6280 won't let me scan to the computer. Only options are "Scan & Reprint" or "Scan to Memory Card". I just want to save image directly on my computer but it doesn't let me. I've uninstalled and...

ergo your problem!!
You must have scanning software installed on your PC in order for the 2 devices to communicate. It should have come bundled on the CD you got with the printer. I believe the HP software is called HPDirector.
Please find on your PC or install from your CD & that will enable you to scan to your PC.
It may already be installed. You will need to run the software to enable communications between the 2 devices.

I tried to install printer cd HP officejet 6100 series to my new Vista computer but it won't work. What shall I do?

Your printer will not work with the CD that you installed. Here's what you need to do.

First uninstall the software you installed. There should be a shortcut in Start>All Programs>HP

You should also go to Start>Control Panel>Printers and see if there is a printer icon for the 6100. If not, close the control panel. If there is, right click on it and select Delete. Close the control panel.

Reboot the computer.

HP does not support your printer with full feature software, but have stated on their support page that Vista does have a driver for it. There are workarounds for scanning and importing and viewing memory card pics.

Anyway, make sure the USB cable is NOT connected. Power on the printer. Plug the USB cable in. The software should install and give you a "Devices are ready to use" notification.

For additional info, see the 6100 Support Page

Any additional help, please comment back.
