I have the same problem. The manual says do not attempt to take apart. Even if you wanted to, the screws are those weird ones & the bottom is one whole huge piece.

The Bissell 5770/Healthy Home vacuum is actually fairly easy to change the belt on. The main thing you will need is a T20 screwdriver with at least a 4 inch shaft and a Phillips-head screwdriver. Four of the six T20 screws on the bottom plate are easy to locate, the last two are set deeper into the vacuum near the wheels. Once you have taken all six T20 screws out you will have to release the lock preventing the vacuum from tilting back so you can easily remove the top plate and gain access to the brush assembly. With the top plate off you will notice four Phillips-head screws holding a cover plate over the brush, simply remove them and you have full access to the belt.

BISSELL model 5770 has a lifetime belt warranty. You can locate a BISSELL authorized service center at www.bissell.com and the belt should be replaced at no charge.
