to run a printer on USB the printer needs to be reset first.
to USB mode, this is covered in the manual, lost that?
the USB port needs to be working , try them all/?
the HP software needs to be loaded too.

First remove the control panel from the machine and make sure that the cable is seated well to the panel and the control board. If they are remove both cable ends and reseat them.

One possible reason could be that manually printer had gone offline.
You can go to Control panel - > printer & Faxes settings and right click your printer and click on user printer online. If you doen'nt find this option on right click means it is already in online mode, but somehow not able to communicate to the printer. Right click the printer and go to properties, click on port tab search for USB port and select USB.
