Message "Scanner could not allocate required memory"

I have the same problem as noted elsewhere. I get the message "Scanner could not allocate required memory. Quit other application and try again" Nothing else is open. Can't get past it.

Solved my own problem by contacting Epson. See transcript below:

Session Started with Agent (Natalie Jonsson)
System: "Hello Lynn. Thank you for connecting to EPSON e-Talk through the www.epson.co.uk/store website."

Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "Thank you for contacting Epson's UK Customer Interaction Centre. My name is Natalie Jonsson.

Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "2. Click the Configuration button."
Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "3. Select the Other tab."

Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "5. The issue should now be resolved."

Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "Please try and reinstall Epson Scan"
Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "Which Scanner do you have?"
Lynn: "OK. epson Perfection 4990 PHOTO"
    Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "OK"
Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "Intel or Power PC processor on your Mac?"
    Lynn: "intel"
Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "Please disconnect the scanner"
    Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "then uninstall"
Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "Then install again from below link"
Agent (Natalie Jonsson) sends page: "http://www.epson.co.uk/Scanners/Epson-Perfection-4990-Photo/Drivers-Support?target=driver&languageId=1&driverId=30495&defaultOSId=15&DRV_CATEGORY_CODE=DRV"
Lynn: "Is there any special way to uninstall on a Mac?"

Agent (Natalie Jonsson): "I would suggest fully removing and reinstalling the EPSON SCAN software using the procedure detailed below.

    1) Disconnect the scanner.

    2) Run the installer from the original installation CD or downloaded driver. Choose Uninstall from the drop-down menu."
    Reboot once completed.

    3) Browse to the OSX Hard Disk. Browse to the Library\ApplicationSupport\TWAIN\TWAIN Data sources or Library\ApplicationSupport. Delete anything beginning with EPSON (files or folders).

    4) Browse to Users\[Username]\Library\Preferences\EPSON. Delete anything beginning with EPSON (files or folders).

    5) Browse to Library\Image Capture\Twain Data Sources. Delete any file relating to the scanner model only.

    6) Browse to Library\Image Capture\Devices. Delete EPSON Scanner.

    7) Browse to Applications\Utilities. Delete EPSON Scan Settings.

    8) Browse to Applications. Delete EPSON Scan, EPSON Scanner Monitor (this process must be stopped first).

To stop the process browse to Applications\Utilities and open the Process Viewer (or Activity Monitor in OS10.3.x or above). Select the EPSON Scanner Monitor and from the Process menu, select Quit process.

Once you have completed the above you will need to restart the
computer. Once it has finished rebooting, empty the trash.

If you need to reinstall the software you can run through the standard installer from the original installation CD or the latest downloaded driver from our website.

Please log off and try this and reconnect to EPSON e-Talk if the problem persists.

I have the same problem, scanning from Corel PhotoPaint 12, PhotoShop CS2 and now PhotoShop CS4, the latter after a HDD reformat and full install of software. The disk I am using for workspace has 339Gb space, so there really shouldn't be a problem. This only occurs when scanning transparencies - I can't even scan a 1 inch by 1.5 inch slide in 8 bit grey at 100%. Sounds like something to do with the transparency adapter itself. Lokos like Isghall have to revert to my behemoth Mustek A3 scanner.

Error message says a double paper feed has occured and it is not double feeding. Any suggestions?

This is a known problem with the Canon P-150. I have spend countless hours on the phone (our company deployed 150 of these) trying to resolve this. The best bet is to unplug the scanner, reboot the computer, and then try again. It is usually a memory allocation issue. If the issue persists. Uninstall the "canon p-150 driver" enter, msconfig, disable all non-microsoft services, reboot, install scanner, re-enable all services and then reboot. Canon knows of this error, and what I just mentioned is what their tech support recommends. There is also a known issue with symantec or norton products interfering with the twain software interface.

Problem saving scanned negatives to laptop. Epson 2400 scanner.

If you are scanning in Color and in high resolution, then the file size will be very big. Try and close other programmes in your Laptop and try. If in color try 150 or 200 dpi option and also select JPG format. Alternatively you can increase your RAM in the laptop. S. Mohan

Hi rnb brother,

It sounds like you may need to udate you BIOS. It may be a memory allocation issue. This is an issue when the accessed/pointed memory allocation does not totally close, allowing a little bit of info out to disrupt normal operation. BIOS is closely related to access/pointed memory allocation and upon udating will close this path competely. I hope this helped a little, if not, hit me back, we have other options i.e. running dual cards.

Problem with sending a text message

hello alexann, Your phone is out of ram memory. Symbian phones use the internal memory as rom memory (dinamically allocated) ram memory (for user programs) and firmware storage. If the internal memory is almost full the phone will begin to give you such errors because it can't load into ram the text aplication that is require to start in order to process sms messages. Please try to avoid to fill the internal memory and instead move anything from it to the memory card. A full internal memory can result in slow phone operation, errors, program crashes or even the failure to boot-up (start) the phone. Therefore, in your case you should try to free more internal memory (phone memory) and check the sms folder to see if you can send messages. If this doesn't solve, you may have a virus or a bad program installation that corrupted symbian OS's registry. This will require to hard reset the phone. Please come back with a reply if these methods fail. Good luck!
