SOURCE: Raymarine St 4000 Wheel Drive

i had face with similar trouble

I went to RayMarine Web site and got an ecopy of the manual. Inside there is a 3D Blow up of the inner workings of the Auto Pilot. There are a couple of shear pins inside on the clutch lever. It shows you how to disassemble the auto and replace the shear pins. Total cost was $0.20. It works GREAT now. No more problems. I was also was able to give the inner working a good cleaning and lube. I have a soft copy of the manual if you need it

If you have a basic knowledge of electronics and can follow instructions. It's easy the hardest part is connecting the pump and bleeding the system.

Raymarine 4000 + autopilot. I immediately get an RG Fail message when I engage the autopilot on my Catalina 320 Sailboat.

I am not familiar with your particular model autopilot, but I do know that Raymarine autopilots can be fussy. All must have a compatible gps feeding it, of course. All must have a rudder angle indicator if your auto pilot connects to the wheel or rudder instead of directly to the tiller.

How do i recalibrate the st4000 tiller for the starboard side

Hi Tina!

The ST 4000 is factory default to the starboard side. If you require a port side mount, see chapter 7 of the manual to which I have provided a link below. (3.16 MB) About halfway down the page.

The text reads as follows:

OPERATING SENSE REVERSAL

Press +1 and -1 keys together for five seconds.
The display will then show port or starboard and the phase of the autopilot will automatically change.
The control head will automatically revert back to its normal operation within 5 seconds.
Note: This should normally only be required if the actuator is port hand mounted.

Hope this helps.

(Sorry about the orientation of the manual, it's pretty cheesy coming from Raymarine.)

My Raymarine ST6001+ says no signal. All other instuments are getting good GPS signal. I have have changed compass but nothing changed. I have a Course Computer 400 as the main autopilot controller. Can...

if the ST 6001 shows "no data" and alarms, the course computer is most likely bad. Control head failure is very uncommon, hower you should look at the brain box (T400) and move the control head to the other seatalk terminal (there are two) you may have just one failed SeaTalk port and can use it as is, otherwise, Raymarine will still fix (this week) 847-746-0100

Raymarine ST6002 Smartpilot Alarm Message ''Seatalk Fail 2''

Very possible that the Wind instrument has a defective Seatalk interface - it happened to me. You could try your Wind in another boat, just connecting it temporarily to the Seatalk Bus - if it jams those it is the problem

Your autopilot should have a separate Course Computer such as the 100, 400, S1... somewhere. Some models have two SeaTalk busses, and the recommended installation is to use one bus for the 6002 control head alone, and the other bus for instruments etc, so a SeaTalk fail on the instrument bus will not disable he Autopilot. I retired my boat this way (after the dealer took the one-bus shortcut).

The real solution is to have the Wind instrument fixed. The cheapest work-around is to cut the yellow SeaTalk wire between the 6002 and the Wind, so that the Wind instrument gets power but does not affect the data bus. That should let the AP and Wind each work normally and independently (no Wind-angle mode on the AP).

Raymarine have a forum you should join for more info and help.

Installation raymarine st6002

The power cable of your 2106 acts as a data cable also. You should find additional unused wires on the cable. Locate the brown and blue wires. You will need to connect the brown wire to the "NMEA OUT +" terminal on the autopilot course computer and connect the blue wire to the "NMEA IN +" terminal on the course computer. Finally, connect the "NMEA OUT -" and the "NMEA IN -" to ground (preferably the same place that the Garmin is grounded (black wire). Be sure that the Garmin interface is set up for NMEA In / NMEA Out. That should get you going!
