You can review the above but likely you wil want to choose to install the HP PCL 6 printer driver.

Personally I would opt to follow the first choice below:

Windows Download and Installation Methods There are 2 primary recommended methods for a Windows driver installation from the web: A) Using a specific driver, printing system, or other driver bundle from the Web Suggested download steps are as follows:

1. Go to your product's software download page (e.g. www.hp.com/go/clj4700_software), or click here to go to www.hp.com/. Select your country/language, and then select Software & Driver Downloads .
2. Select your computer's Operating System.
3. Identify your driver (e.g. HP Color LaserJet 4700 PCL6).
4. Select the Download button corresponding to your identified driver.

By any chance are you using PCL6?
Change to PCL5 and try it.

I think u have installed the PCL 5 or PCL 6 driver.Not to worry
Go to www.hp.com and download the PS driver for LJ 3055. Install the driver,u will not get the PCL XL error any more.

The issue your having is with the Operating system compatability. The HP 3055 is compatible with 98, ME, XP, Window 2000 and forward. It won't do windows 3.1 or 95 well even if your computer will, the disconnect comes when the software is sending old print commands to a new style print driver.

Your best hope is to download and install the HP Printdriver for Windows 98 and try it as it's the most tolerant of old gear. Download the PCL 5 as the PCL6 is too new and probably not going to work.

As an alternate try to download each of the printdrivers for the differnt era windows and try them. It's a hard problem that may not have a solution other than upgrading the accounting software.

If it's simply a connection problem, they do make a USB to Parallel addaptor which may help you with the physical connection issue.

try loading a pcl5 driver instead of the pcl6. pcl xl is hp's pcl6 and some times has problems.

Make sure you can view filenames with the trailing dot and 3 letters so you can see the type of file. (Use tools menu, folder options, view, uncheck "hide extensions for known types") Doubleclick on the downloaded file and note where it is unzipping to (c:\lj something or other). Open that folder. Right click on the file ending in .inf and choose "install" in the menu that pops up. If that fails, open the control panel, choose Printers & faxes, rightclick on the HP printer, and choose "properties". Look for the "update driver" button, probably under "advanced". Help it choose that .inf file.
