Open ADF and close again. There must be tab in the ADF which is not pressing a microswitch located in the lower part of the ADF. IF you can locate it, try pressing it manually.

Thick black line when faxing and coping brothers ink jet model MFC-J615W

It really depends on how thick the black line is. If its say 1/2" to 1" thick then a segment of the contact image sensor has failed. If its very thin then that would be just dirt either of the scanner glasses or under them. When you open the scanner cover you will find two glasses. the thinner one is for the adf and the very large is for flat bed scanning. If you get the line when using both then the CIS is faulty and needs replacing. If either one is good with no line then it could be just the ribbon cable that goes from the main board to the CIS.

Doc cover open errror message on a mfc-8840d and cant' seem to print anything and the mode always is in fax mode and we can't seem to change it.

That error happens when the left hinge in the back breaks and the scanner cover won't shut all the way. temporarily you can tape the switch that is above the hinge and when the error is gone the modes should change again. The hinge is #LP2403001.

Brother 8820d MFC auto doc feeder does not work...

You need a new hinge so the cover will sit down properly, or paper will jam anyway, but it sounds like there is still a scrap of paper on one of the sensors inside the ADF, you need to look with a flashlight down thru where the paper goes and also look up thru the slot with the ADF lifted.

Brother MFC 8440 Automatic Document Feeder doesent feed

Could be a sensor in the ADF, or the hinge on the left rear of the scanner cover is broken.

ADF not working

Open the document feeder and look for an obstruction.

Clean the roller and pad with isopropyl alcohol.

Also look for a switch actuator trapped down or knocked off.

Hello, I have an HP OfficeJet 7310 all-in-one print/scanner/fax etc. I purchased about two years ago but don't use very often. Yesterday while I was trying to send a fax I received a loud winding-up...

I have same problem! The copy/scan function would feed the orginal from the ADF halfway and instead of making a normal loud feeding noise it made a horriable alarming sound and displayed an error message. To fix it: I waited a day or two and bang the top of the feeder cover with normal force while the original is feeding. It appeared the problem is resolved. I have no idea what the problem is, however I think if this work for few months at a time is fine by me.

How to replace broken hinge on ADF on Brother MFC-8820D printer

Look at back of machine and at your new hinge, note the screw hole, if you undo both of those on the back of the printer, entire doc feed will come up and out, BECAREFULL just lift A LITTLE is enough to enable hinge base to be free of sockets (many cables attached) and place doc unit slightly sideways on copy glass to enable yourself access to 3 screws that hold hinge.

Document Cover Open

I had the same problem with mine. Lift the top scanner, and check the hinges on the left. That error message means that the little black sensor on the left next to the hinges is not meeting flat with the unit when closed. Hold the sensor in for a few seconds, and your printer will start working properly.
