Document Cover Open

I have a Brother MFC 8840D laser mutifunction copier/fax.  I have an error message of "doc cover open" after removing a jammed document through the top feeder.  I have checked that there is no papers stuck in copier feeder, but I cannot get the message to clear.  I have turned the unit off and on and I cannot clear the message error.  Please assist.

I am seeing Doc. Cover Open with instructions to remove original and then close cover  on the LCD, the hinges look fine, what else could it be??  I've restarted the machine.

I lifted the document cover and pushed and held the  sensor lever in the left and back of the open lid and the error message "Doc. Cover Open" went away and I could copy and print again.

I had the same problem with mine. Lift the top scanner, and check the hinges on the left. That error message means that the little black sensor on the left next to the hinges is not meeting flat with the unit when closed. Hold the sensor in for a few seconds, and your printer will start working properly.

Open and close the feed cover and do the same with the front cover. It seems to me that I've had to do that to clear the error before. Otherwise... I'm not sure.

Brother MFC-8840D printer w/false paper jam indication.

With my Brother 8840D I have had paper jams that when cleared would not delete from the display nor would the machine operate until I unplugged the machine for around eight hours. I guess it is a sort of reset or reboot.

How to remove back corner panel at feeder cable in Brother MFC 8840D

If you mean the top left of the doc. feeder, you remove the cover by flexing slightly, remove a phillips screw, lift the scanner cover and there's a square hole on the lid with one of those flex clip retainers that you use a screwdriver to lift.

The error message says Doc. Cover open but the cover is closed

You will probably have a broken hinge at the back left hand side of the Doc. cover.
This means that the cover won't close properly at the back corner, and the cover sensing switch won't actuate.

Doc cover open errror message on a mfc-8840d and cant' seem to print anything and the mode always is in fax mode and we can't seem to change it.

That error happens when the left hinge in the back breaks and the scanner cover won't shut all the way. temporarily you can tape the switch that is above the hinge and when the error is gone the modes should change again. The hinge is #LP2403001.

Brother 8840D ADF not working. The flat bed scanner runs instead for fax or copy. Displays Doc Cover Open message

Open ADF and close again. There must be tab in the ADF which is not pressing a microswitch located in the lower part of the ADF. IF you can locate it, try pressing it manually.

Doc. Cover Open displayed...remove original and then close cover.

Left rear hinge is cracked stopping lid from closing fully. Tape down black switch left corner near glass rear. Or replace hinge
