Subwoofer Shutdown JVC TH-C50. Worked fine until few weeks ago when the subwoofer decided it wanted to shut down in the middle of anything that was playing. It is doing it more frequently now and we cannot figure out the issue. We have checked all of the cables, the power strip, everything. It starts again when you disconnect and reconnect the data cable (which connects the unit to the subwoofer) but it won't take long before it shuts off again. The DVD player itself is fine. All of the speakers play great, and all the setting are set to the manual specs. Has this occurred to anyone else, and does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening? Thanks for your responses.
I did that aleady, and we checked every cable just to make sure because we have cats and we were wondering if they got back there and messed around, right? Nope, all the cables look good,as well as the jacks. I am leaning toward one of two things at this point: either the data cable is just bad, for whatever reason, or we need a better surge supressor strip. If it is not a cable/wire/ power issue, I am trying to figure out what else could make it just shut off like that. Usually components shut off as a means of protection from a surge of some sort. However, if this is the case, then you would think the entire unit would shut down, or other things, like the television, would also. Still trying things out!I did that aleady, and we checked every cable just to make sure because we have cats and we were wondering if they got back there and messed around, right? I think I have solved the issue. Thanks to anyone who was giving it some thought! (Power strip, by the by.)I think I have solved the issue. Thanks to anyone who was giving it some thought! (Power strip, by the by.)

Yes you can use any 2-core cable to carry the bass signal to the subwoofer. As the bass speaker cone is the largest cone in your speaker set I would recommend a good quality cable of decent gauge (thickness) to carry the bass signal.
You just need to make sure you have the right connectors for the amp and sub and make sure you connect positive to positive and negative to negative.
I don't know if you were able to get the problem fixed, but I had the same sort of problem where it worked and then all of a sudden it stopped working right in the middle of a movie.
I took it to a repair shop and he found that it was the power supply... a $4.00 part.
1. Try twisting the RCA plugs from CD player and see if they are not connecting right.
2. Replace the cable from the Cd player to the receiver
3. Try a different input
4. Try a different CD player
See if any of those solve your issue. Replacing the cable worked for me one time
shut off audio system is performed to protect it from damage due to high current consumption or short circuit in speakers try to disconnect subwoofer first and check if it is ok. the problem in your subwoofer or its cord-change the cord and check if it is ok thats fine if not change subwoofer.do the previuos for all speaker one by one. if all above failed you must contact service center for help.
Check the connection in the back of the sub, where your wire plugs in from the DVD unit, the connector is loose in the unit itself. Had mine replaced and is doing the same thing again
Check your cable that runs between the main unit and sub for bent pins. If they look fine there may be a short in the sub itself that is causing it to go in to shutdown.
I could either be the sub or the main unit. The main unit actually sends a signal to the sub to turn it on so if that circuit is bad in the main unit the sub is never going to come on. I've also seen bad cables (You'd be amazed at how stubborn people can be when din connectors don't cooperate).
What system are you using it with, how do you have it connected, when you say the system does not work as a result, does it mean that the system does not power up, or no sound?
