Subwoofer not powering up

Purchased the TH-M505 almost a year ago. First time we used it the system worked fine. After a week the subwoofer stopped powering up. Sent it back to JVC twice, both times after we got it back it worked once and then stopped powering up again. When we reconnect the cable from the center unit to the subwoofer often times we hear a click and the green light will come on for a few seconds and the click itself off again. We get a picture just fine, just no sound. What could be the problem?

I could either be the sub or the main unit. The main unit actually sends a signal to the sub to turn it on so if that circuit is bad in the main unit the sub is never going to come on. I've also seen bad cables (You'd be amazed at how stubborn people can be when din connectors don't cooperate).

  • Here is a list of cables for your unit from Crutchfield's.

  • If your looking for the s pin DIN cable from the sub you can get that anywhere. The 8 pin DIN is a standard cord the same across the board. Here are a couple to choose from.

JVC Home Theater System M505 The subwoofer will not come on and it appears that the system (speakers) will not work at all until it runs thru the subwoofer system.

Wiggle on the long round cable connected to the Sub woofer. If the SW turns on, open it and solder the connector or change the connector

There are very few uses for the subwoofer. Try it on FM if you get audio the woofer is working.

Subwoofer shuts down

Check the connection in the back of the sub, where your wire plugs in from the DVD unit, the connector is loose in the unit itself. Had mine replaced and is doing the same thing again

SubWoofer

Sounds like your original and this sub have bad amps. The amp for the sub is not the same as the amp for the other speakers. The old unit has a dead amp and this new one is on the way out. (Pulling too much current on high bass)

SUBWOOFER WON'T POWER ON (Grounding out???)

Check your cable that runs between the main unit and sub for bent pins. If they look fine there may be a short in the sub itself that is causing it to go in to shutdown.

JVC TH-M505 powers off right away

The unit is going in to shutdown. My guess is a failed output. Service is going to be required.
