I have built a new computer
and now my printer will not print
(it still works on old computer)
old machine is P4 2.53ghz 2GB ram Win XP home
new one is dual core duo 3ghz 4GB ram Win xp Pro
the computer detected printer and loaded driver ok
but reported "test page failed to print"
and will not print from dos window to test printer connection
as far as I can see all port settings E.T.C. are same on both machines?
I just thought I would run through the checks again and found it was working.
The only thing I had done was to run Advanced System Care it may have corrected a registry error that was causing the problem I don't know. This problem is now cleared
It "Fixed" itself

Re boot the computer with ,( wired or wireless printer?), the printer cable in the USB port in the laptop/desktop, the windows version you have will ID the device and try to load a driver, or Go to printer in the start menu and ADD a PRINTER the software will search for the attached printer. OR use the software that came with the printer, load into the Dell and follow the instructions.
The Brother HL-3095CW is a color laser printer that is not natively compatible with Mac OS X Lion.
However, there are a few ways to get the printer to work with your Mac:
Download and install the Brother printer driver for Mac OS X Lion from the Brother website.
Use the built-in AirPrint feature in Mac OS X Lion to print wirelessly to the Brother HL-3095CW.
Use a third-party software such as Gutenprint or CUPS to add support for the printer to your Mac.
Use a print server to connect the printer to your network and make it available to your Mac.
It's important to note that this printer was released in 2009 and Brother's support for this device and Mac Lion will be limited. It's recommended to check Brother's website to see if the printer model is compatible with the latest Mac OS version and the support for the printer model.
If you continue to have issues with getting the Brother HL-3095CW to work with your Mac, it would be best to contact Brother technical support for further assistance.
You can download the driveer for your printer on their website located at www.brother.com. Click on customer support and then downloads and enter the make and model of your printer. then just follow the prompts to download and install your drivers and/or software.
this link provides information for Vista PCs - additional information can be obtained from the Brother website http://www.brother-usa.com/ if required.
Once downloaded you will need to install the printer using the "Add a printer" wizard which can be found in the Control Panel (under printers).
The Brother HL 1030 in USB mode is supported by Windows. When using a Mac with OSxx thru USB will show that there are no communications with the printer. One solution that appears to work with Leopard is to use the alternative communications software for USB connections called "usbtb" which can be downloaded at http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb(it's a free download).
If this does not work you will have to use a different parallel-usb adapter.
On the right side should be a blue colored lever. Depress this while lifting up on the bottom of the toner cartridge. This should allow you to remove it.
