The clean corona wire keeps popping up and when you do clean it the toner always comes up empty. I know that we haven't used that much toner we just purchased it on 7/24/2008'
I was getting the clean the corona wire problem message even after repeated cleanings. Before this problem occured the toner light was flashing warning of low toner. When I got the clean the wire pop up the toner light was on all the time indicating the toner was depleated. So, I thought I would try replacing the toner cartridge and see what happened. I opened the new toner box and noticed on the foil packege specific instructions to clean the corona wire when installing the new toner. I installed the new toner and cleaned the wire one more time. I then reinstalled the drum and toner assembly into the printer and the clean the corona wire message did not come up again. The printer now works fine.

After my previously posted solution, I again ran into the same problem after using only a small amount of toner from a new installed cartridge. Â I then found a post at this link which solved my problem and should be of help to others.http://www.fixya.com/support/t498042-hiw... Â

After I fixed the problem using the link in my November 20th comment, I reinstalled the origional starter toner cartridge that came with the printer. Â Since reinsatalling the starter cartridge I have printed more than 100 pages without a problem.Â
Taping up the side hole with electrical tape works really well, so the sensor light does not pass through, and tricks into believing that it's fill of ink. Worked Great-Printing nice and dark, Q, Would this cause any damage to the printer, especiallw when it goes really low and light grey on ink?

Following up from Arius' advise, i tried to use a blower and thoroughly blow away the dust sparks and what not on the corona wire and then it worked perfectly. i think as Arius mentioned, the corona wire is very sensitive to dusts and particles. Therefore, as long as the wire stays clean, the printer can then work without any problem.

This is what i did.
1. remove drum cartridge
2. separate toner cartridge
3. remove small "E" clip from drum shaft at corona cleaner end
4. remove bush and push Drum shaft slightly in, enough to disengage bush at other end.
5. hold by shaft and lift drum and corona unit from drum cartridge and place on table with drum upward.
6. pull out drum shaft and remove drum watch for drum gear.
7. at the end of the corona unit which has a white disk, gently prize/slide the corona grid away from the disk. this releases the grid and it can now be lifted carefully out.
8. Use an eraser to clean the corona wire "CAREFULLY" it should be Golden colour.
9. use eraser to clean All toner stains from Grid "CAREFULL"
remove rubber roller and clean with dry cloth.

Corona wire are quite sensitive to any foreign particle like toner, or dust, spark might cause the corona to popped up, ensure the the whole assy is thoroughly clean and install a new wire, do not use any liquid material in this area, caus it is a form of conductor that might help the corona from shorting to the ground itself,
nothing to do with the toner, it might be a coincidence

New printer, about 100 pages printed - same problem: clean corona wire.

Try printing a configuration page: it should tell you what the actual amount of toner is in it.
For the message I beleive there is a sensor or voltage indicator that reads how the wire is doing wipe the inside with a clean cloth top and bottom to remove any toner that might be giving a false reading

We are experiencing the same problem with the "Clean Corona Wire" error message. We installed a brand new drum unit and toner and are still getting the same error.
corona wire message
We have replaced the toner. We have cleaned the wire numerous times with the little gren tab and made sure it was all the way back to the edge. We still get the "clean the corona wire" message and cannot print anything.
I have only used this printer for a few weeks, and now can't use the printer at all. First, I was able to do the "cleaning", and it worked fine for a few more days. Now it doesn't matter how many times I open and move the corona wire, the message won't go away. I'm reluctant to buy an expensive drum assembly / toner cartridge since it will cost more than this crappy printer in the first place .... and also because some of you have indicated that buying a new cartridge doesn't fix the problem!
We have the same issue. Clean corona wire. I've cleaned it about 6 times just like the pop up says and I still get the error. Buy a new toner or printer????
I have the same problem. Clean the Corona Wire error message pops up after EVERY page prints! Replaced drum with brand new unit and brand new toner cartridge - still the same problem.
I just this too. I still get the error message to clean the corona wire. Nothing is printing. How frustrating!
I just spent a hundred plus dollars for a new drum, I'm still getting the clean corona wire message, and it does not print. I had a fondness for Brother because they made one of the first typewriter/word processors, but it seems to be junk now.
