These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

My e270 freezes and switches off mid song

When it freezes there can be a problem from the music, since it cant read it well, and when it turns off there can be a problem with your battery. Your Battery might be low..

I would format the device to remove all of the data and start over.

You can FORMAT the device thru My Computer>Device Name (m240)>Right Click and select FORMAT.

Sandisk sansa mp3

k, so now the SanDisk sansa m240 1GB mp3 player, when you turn it on, it freezes. I have tried to change the battery and everything and it still wont work. What is happening here? others that have had the same problem. I researched this online and found out that there was a rather large bad batch of these mp3 players shipped in December. they suggest calling sandisk tech support at 1-866-726-3475 for a replacement and getting a RMA number or going back to where you bought it and exchanging it.

Mp3

Jan 21, 07 I called and spoke with a Sandisk rep on Jan 16 about the "Sansa m240 startup screen" freeze-up problem that so many are experiencing. He said a bad batch was sent out in early December and on those m240''s there is "NO POSSIBLE FIX" for that problem, but no plans for a recall. He said he could not discuss what the problem was, but I guess it would be a hardware issue, since a firmware issue could easily be resolved. He said anyone with this problem is requested to call Sandisk and get a MRA number, then return the m240 to Sandisk for a replacement. If you have one that''s frozen on the Sansa m240 startup screen (all other freeze-ups can probably be corrected) take it back to your place of purchase or call Sandisk immediately. <>

Freezing

Same problem is mentioned in another location at this site. It happened to me too and nothing works. The standard recommendation is to take out battery and hold down power button for a minute or more, but that did not work for me. Everyone says they took it back which is what I'm going to do.

Sandisk m240 freezes halfway through playlist....

When you disconnect be sure to use windows' disconnect device safely  thing on the bottom right part of the screen by the clock. Even though the player says it's not writing it probably still is even after a long period of time so if you just unplug it it will mess up whatever mp3 it was transferring at the time.
