to remove the cartridge all you need to do is open the main door for the printer, pull the cartridge out, take the new one, pull on the tape, shake it and put it back in. That info is also included when you buya toner cartridge.

Replacing the print cartridge

1. Open the print cartridge door, and remove the old print cartridge. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, minimize its exposure to direct light by covering it with a sheet of paper. Figure 1: Removing the print cartridge
2. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, hold the print cartridge at each end.
3. Pull the tab until all the tape is removed from the cartridge. Put the tab in the print cartridge box to return for recycling. Figure 2: Removing the sealing tape
4. Gently rock the toner cartridge from front to back to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Figure 3: Shaking the print cartridge
5. Insert the print cartridge in the device and close the print cartridge door. Figure 4: Inserting the print cartridge CAUTION: If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash the clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into the fabric.

Solved a similar problem by turning off the UAC (User Account Control) in Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines. Worked great without UAC on.
