Hello there,
When I power up my Magellan Roadmate 700 the power only stays on for about 5 minutes, sometimes less. This happened after I accidently dropped it. Prior to this it worked perfectly.
I'm thining there is something off with the internal power connection. As when it is powered the navigation works fine.
Can you help me fix the problem or advise if there are any local technicians where I could to have it looked @ here in Austin, Texas.
Thanx alot for your help in advance!
Same problem. The power seems to come and go. I have tried clenaing the cradle contacts with rubbing alcohol, But that doesn't help. Rubber bands holdint the main body to the cradle seemed to help a little. But that improvement then wore off.Same problem. The power seems to come and go. I had the same problem. It was the pin inside the **** clamp that was broken. As I wiggled the plug in the unit the pin would dislodge. eventually the pin got lodged in the 12v power cord.
get a new unit like any magellan mastreo series 4000 or higher or roadmate 800 or higher,i had a 700 they start having alot of problems after i did my research on here.i have the mastreo 4000 and the roadmate 800 both work great.
Hi,
All these problem will arise when the cradle becomes faulty.
Cradle will be at the backside of the unit.Where you plug the unit .When that particular cradle becomes faulty means the unit will turns off automaticly...So to over come this problem just replace the cradle the problem will be resolved .......
Hello, Rafster!
Cigarette lighter plug problems are not uncommon, and - hopefully - this is the source of your problem.
Because the green LED on your plug is lit, it would suggest that the FUSE inside is okay. Still, it's worth checking! The plug is easy to open, and the fuse easy to inspect/replace.
IF the fuse is okay, the cord itself or the plug end that attaches to your Roadmate could be damaged. In order to determine this, you would have to check for voltage at the output end. But, you'd need a circuit tester and a wee bit of electronics knowledge to test it.
If you don't have access to a tester, then the easiest test is to simply purchase a NEW cigarette lighter cord. You can get them at most retail discount stores (BestBuy; Circuit City; WalMart; etc.); RadioShack; or directly from Magellan. They're generally less than $10.00!
Steve, In this case I would replace the Hard drive. But, since you probably don't have spare HDD's lying around.. do you atleast have the Software version? Some CD that came with it hopefully. If you do, then you may be able to stay alive here. Once your system boots to the user screen.. press + and repeat key at the same time.. "secret" menu now. ONLY IF YOU HAVE SOFTWARE TO INSTALL!! Select NAND FLASH FORMAT.. The unit will shut down after formatting. start up your software installer on computer. plug usb in.. and power on unit. This fix isn't %100, but it's the best shot you have. Otherwise you've gotta send it down here to Texas (where magellan repair is) and pay for the new hard drive. OR.. you could call customer service and see what they have to say. you'll probably be transferred to overseas..
--good luck with that
