Magellan Roadmate 700 can't power up 2nd time in car
My Magellan Roadmate 700 can't power up. When I powered it up in my car, it worked just fine. When I turned it off and later turned it on, I received a gray/white screen and nothing happen. I had to take it into my home and plug it into an outlet to power it up. Every time I used it in the car with the cigarrette light, it only worked once and then died again... By the way, how do I reload my GPS software? I have the data in the 20-gb internal hard drive.

It seems that Magellan is not good with the power connectors on their
units, I believe the problem is with the power adapter plugged into the
cradle. Sorry I have no information about a repair center. Usually for
an absorbent amount of money, Magellan will repair.
get a new unit like any magellan mastreo series 4000 or higher or roadmate 800 or higher,i had a 700 they start having alot of problems after i did my research on here.i have the mastreo 4000 and the roadmate 800 both work great.
The flash card hole is supposed to be empty - all you need should be on the hard disk BUT the first Roadmate 700 I purchased was empty i.e. no software loaded. The second failed due to bad power connection, the third worked but was factory refurbished! what a crass organisation Magellan is!!!
Try fiddling with the power connection that goes into the cradle that the unit sits on. The power connection is ultra sensitive. BUT, if you've only just bought the unit then you are in luck - return it and get your money - back Magellan Support is extremely poor.
I am binning my Roadmate and getting a Tomtom720 Go series with maps and cameras preloaded - it auto updates when it is on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.
Cigarette lighter plug problems are not uncommon, and - hopefully - this is the source of your problem.
Because the green LED on your plug is lit, it would suggest that the FUSE inside is okay. Still, it's worth checking! The plug is easy to open, and the fuse easy to inspect/replace.
IF the fuse is okay, the cord itself or the plug end that attaches to your Roadmate could be damaged. In order to determine this, you would have to check for voltage at the output end. But, you'd need a circuit tester and a wee bit of electronics knowledge to test it.
If you don't have access to a tester, then the easiest test is to simply purchase a NEW cigarette lighter cord. You can get them at most retail discount stores (BestBuy; Circuit City; WalMart; etc.); RadioShack; or directly from Magellan. They're generally less than $10.00!
