This is the boot screen, Remove the power connection, and reinsert while you press the "Cancel" button at the same time, if done correctly, your Roadmate should continue to boot and enter the user mode.
Connector J1 is the power connector. The left post corresponds to the center lug. The middle post is the outer connection. The right post closest to the USB connection is just an anchor - no connection.
It seems that Magellan is not good with the power connectors on their
units, I believe the problem is with the power adapter plugged into the
cradle. Sorry I have no information about a repair center. Usually for
an absorbent amount of money, Magellan will repair.
The battery looks like a Lithium battery and it should be 3 volts or close.
I to loaded new maps and am not autherised to use them. What a joke! Looks like a case of to much security to protect Magellian's already to high of a profit!
at the user menu press the "-" zoom out key the "+" zoom in key and the repeat button which is on top of your unit. Once your in the "hidden" menu, select reset user data.. your unit will reset and everything will be clean. If your trying to delete specific addresses I would use software to sync up and explore your MRM's files.

The flash card hole is supposed to be empty - all you need should be on the hard disk BUT the first Roadmate 700 I purchased was empty i.e. no software loaded. The second failed due to bad power connection, the third worked but was factory refurbished! what a crass organisation Magellan is!!!
Try fiddling with the power connection that goes into the cradle that the unit sits on. The power connection is ultra sensitive. BUT, if you've only just bought the unit then you are in luck - return it and get your money - back Magellan Support is extremely poor.
I am binning my Roadmate and getting a Tomtom720 Go series with maps and cameras preloaded - it auto updates when it is on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.
I had the same problem. At first intermitant and then permanent. The power connector inside the based that the head unit snaps onto had the center post fall out. You need to removed the 4 small screws located in the threaded reseases. Then using a knife I pried the plastic halves apart. You need to break the ultrasonic bonding on the plastic, but everythign seperated where it should. Now you have access to the circuit board. I soldered in 2 wires which I brought our and soldered to a cigarette outlet cord. Then I screwed it all back together.
